Travel Insurance: What can I claim for?

Travel insurance is designed to help cover your expenses if something unexpected goes wrong on your trip. It's not a substitute for your primary health insurance, and it won't cover non-essential overseas medical treatment, such as routine exams.

What am I covered for?

To give you an idea of benefits you may be able to claim, depending on your country of residence our policies offer cover (up to policy limits) for benefits including:

Note: you should always refer to your Policy Wording for the full description of benefits and exclusions and of course you can always contact us with any questions or concerns.

Our Policies

We offer two plans – Standard and Explorer – each of which offers different levels of coverage and benefits depending on your country of residence. It is up to you to choose what plan has the right level of coverage to meet your travel needs.

What’s not covered?

Travel insurance isn’t designed to cover everything so make sure you read your Policy Wording for what is and isn’t covered. That way there are no surprises if you need to use it.

Some of the main things that aren’t covered include:

  • Any existing medical condition
  • Where care is available under any Reciprocal Health Care Agreement
  • Any medical expenses incurred within your country of permanent residence
  • Expenses which are not reasonable or medically necessary; routine treatment; elective treatment.
  • Traveling to, planning to travel to, or choosing to remain in a country or region that is the subject of a ‘Do not travel’ warning issued by the US Department of State (smartraveller.gov.au).
  • Being under the influence of alcohol or drugs
  • Anything else that’s listed in the General Exclusions and specific section exclusions in the Policy Wording.

How do I make a claim on my travel insurance?

Note: all travel insurance plans are different, and cover will vary, depending on what's happened, your Country of Residence, the plan you choose and any options or upgrades you buy.

Travel insurance doesn’t cover everything. All of the information we provide is a brief summary. It does not include all terms, conditions, limitations, exclusions and termination provisions of the plans described. Coverage may not be the same or available for residents of all countries, states or provinces. Please carefully read your Policy Wording for a full description of coverage. If you have any questions, please contact us.
