Traveling is expensive and accidents can be even more so. Get covered by World Nomads Travel Insurance.
Most parts of your trip you can plan for - and for the unexpected, there’s travel insurance. Long story short, travel insurance safeguards the financial investments you’ve made towards your trip and can step in when there’s an emergency.
Depending on your plan, travel insurance may help when:
· Your vacation gets interrupted or cancelled (such as when you’re seriously ill and can no longer travel).
· Your personal belongings (such as your luggage, sports gear or passport) get stolen or damaged.
· You have an accident and need medical treatment or air evacuation.
Travel Insurance versus Health Insurance
Government health plans won’t cover you once you’re out of your province (and if they do, it would most likley be for a limited number of circumstances or for an inadequate amount of money). That’s why it’s important to buy travel insurance when going overseas or in parts of Canada that aren’t your home.
Travel insurance is valid for the duration of your trip and for emergencies that happen during that length of time. It isn’t meant to be a substitute for health insurance and doesn’t cover routine care.
What we won’t cover
Travel insurance doesn't pick up the tab for non-emergency care such as:
· Annual check-ups
· Treatment for pre-existing conditions
· Cosmetic procedures such as Botox
· Eyeglasses and contact lenses prescription
But since most health plans don’t cover medical costs out of province, it’s important to purchase travel insurance when you’re far from home. Some hospitals and clinics abroad may refuse treating patients without proper coverage or adequate funds, plus medical bills can run up to astronomical amounts of money in places such as the United States. With insurance, you can also get access to emergency assistance teams who can help you locate doctors, get prescriptions, and book transportation to nearby hospitals or a flight back home.
Another reason to buy: Even when you encounter bumps in the road, travel insurance can keep your adventure going. Got your suitcase stolen? You may get reimbursed for overnight stays and a change of clothes and toiletries. Has a storm rained on your flight plans? You may have saved yourself the change fee.
That said, it’s common for policies to have exclusions, such as pre-existing medical conditions; limitations to the maximum amount of coverage; and optional premiums for higher levels of cover (example: adventure sports.)
That may seem to add up to a lot of caveats but on the whole travel insurance can prevent minor problems from scaling into full-blown disasters. It’s a small price to pay for one of the most valuable things that you can arm yourself with: reassurance. With that confidence, you can be ready for any adventure. Go ahead, explore your boundaries.

I just wanted to let everyone know how deeply and forever grateful I am for all the help I received from World Nomads insurance in one of my more painful and scary moments of my life. I never wished or intended to EVER use my insurance, and I have never used any of the ones I had in previous travels, but this time a sudden and excruciating stomach pain forced me to the Hospital while being in Thailand (Chiang Mai Ram Hospital). I thought I would get the right antibiotic and more powerful meds through an IV and end of story. But no, the actual case was that my appendix was inflamed and infected, and the only way of dealing with this was surgery. I just couldn't believe it! So yeah, it was scary, I was alone, and they were awesome, replied right away through e-mail, which was fantastic because I did not have time to make phone calls, then alongside the International Patient Services from the Hospital, took care of everything and saved my life. I just want everyone to be aware of the importance of having insurance, and a good one, even if they think they're healthy and nothing bad is going to happen, unexpected things happen all the time, and it can ruin your fun AND your budget. I am very thankful I had my World Nomads insurance by my side, and you can be sure I will always have it on every future trip.
