File your claim online 24/7

Having been on the road for long periods ourselves, we know that waiting until you get home to file a claim isn’t always ideal. World Nomads gives you the freedom to make a claim from wherever you are and whenever you like, so you can keep traveling.

How to file a claim in 5 easy steps

1. Things happen

Don’t panic. If you're experiencing an emergency, call our 24/7 Emergency Assistance Team. Keep your plan number handy and be ready with a phone number where you can be reached.

2. Start a claim

Login to your member account. If you're not a member, you need to sign up for an account here. Nomads tip: take this time to reread your plan to check your coverage.

3. Follow the prompts

You will be prompted to click onto the portal for Trip Mate, our claims administrator. Answer the questions relevant to your claim. Gather any documents you need to submit. You can save your claim as a draft if you need to go back to it.

4. Upload & click send

Upload your documents and click the declaration to finish the claim. Be on the lookout for an email confirmation with your claims number.

5. Keep calm & travel on

The claims team will be in touch if it needs more information and will keep you updated on the status of your claim.

Tips for Making a Claim

  • Scan receipts and/or take photos of your belongings before you depart on your trip. If you need to make a claim for lost, stolen or damaged bags or gear, you’ll need proof that you own the items you are claiming for.
  • Save the 24/7 Emergency Assistance Team number in your phone before you leave. They’ll be your first point of contact for almost every type of issue that comes up on your trip (the exception is if an airline lost your bag. See next point.). This number is especially important to call if you need medical care, as the team can help direct you to the best hospital and pre-approve payment, as needed.
  • If your bags are lost by an airline, first try to resolve the issue with the travel provider and keep a copy of the paperwork. Our non-insurance service partner, Blue Ribbon Bags, should be your next call (888-BAGGAGE) or online at tripmate.blueribbonbags.com.
  • If your bags are damaged by a travel provider (like an airline or train), report damage of your stuff to them first and keep a copy of the paperwork. Ask for compensation from your travel provider first before you file a travel insurance claim. Travel insurance is considered secondary, or excess, insurance meaning that you need to seek compensation first from other sources, like an airline.
  • Theft at your destination? Report it to the police as soon as possible (you’ll need the police report to file a claim)
  • If you are hurt or sick and need to seek medical care during your travels, report any medical expenses incurred to your primary insurance first. Send us a copy of any expenses they denied to pay.
  • Gather any other documentation that may be related to your claim (i.e. new flight itinerary, doctor’s notes etc.). You’ll need to submit the documentation within 90 days.

A painless and intuitive claims process

I was pickpocketed while in Mexico City and had my new iPhone stolen as well as my driver’s license. The claims process for World Nomads was painless and really intuitive. I simply logged everything online. The resolution was extremely fair, and I would be happy to recommend World Nomads to anyone.
