Travel Insurance scenario: I need a hospital or doctor

Even if you’re in the middle of nowhere, or in a place where you don’t speak the local language, we’re here to help.

First step: call our Emergency Assistance Team

If you need to get to the hospital or see a doctor for a sudden and serious illness or after being injured in an accident, then you, a friend, a travelling companion, or your family can call the emergency assistance team, and they can direct you to the nearest, most suitable medical facility.

What can the Emergency Assistance Team help with?

Our multi-lingual 24/7 Emergency Assistance team can assist with:

  • Organising your admission to hospital
  • Arranging emergency transport
  • Talking directly with your treating doctor about your condition
  • Liaising with your family back home
  • Locating nearest embassies and consulates
  • Where cover is confirmed, they can also arrange for your bills to be paid direct.

What information do I need to provide the Emergency Assistance Team?

When calling, make sure you have the following information ready:

  • Your policy number
  • As much detail as possible about what has happened
  • Your location
  • A contact number for where you are
  • Any prescribed medication

What if I’ve already received medical treatment?

If you've been taken to the hospital already, have received medical treatment, or need emergency transportation, then you (or someone else) must contact the emergency assistance team as soon as reasonable.

If you don't let the emergency assistance team know, your cover may be affected.

Who pays for the cost of treatment?

That depends on what’s happened and the seriousness of the situation. For more information check out our guide on who pays for medical costs.

What our policies cover

Travel insurance is made for emergency medical and dental treatment overseas for unexpected and serious illnesses or injuries, not general check-ups. Be sure to check the Policy Document for more information, and if you’re not sure what’s covered you can contact us.

What should I do if I have an emergency while traveling?

This is only a summary of coverage and does not include the full terms, conditions, limitations and exclusions of the policy. You should read your Policy Document in full, so you understand what is and isn’t covered. That way there won’t be any surprises if you need to use it. If you have any questions, please get in touch.
