Trip Exchange Benefits Included in Your Travel Insurance

Group tours are a fun way to travel. You have experts planning your trip to make sure you see and do all the best things. As a bonus, you’ll probably meet some other fun nomads on your group tour as well.

What happens though if you book a group tour in Africa, and are notified just before the trip that the dates are being changed? If your tour now leaves 5 days later, you may need to change your flights or hotels - and we know that won’t be cheap. Because of these unexpected situations that can sometimes change the dates of your trip, you may want to consider getting a quote for travel insurance* that includes the trip exchange benefit. 

How can the Trip Exchange benefit protect my travels?

The trip exchange benefit is available for US residents who purchased the Explorer or Epic plans. If the dates get changed by the travel supplier for your group tour prior to your scheduled departure, you could be reimbursed for the following: 

  • Change fees paid to transfer your travel arrangements.
  • The difference in the cost between the original and the new travel arrangements.
  • Cancellation penalties for travel arrangements which cannot be transferred.

If you cannot make that new date and you want to cancel due to one of the unforeseen reasons listed under the Trip Cancellation benefit, you could file a claim under this benefit. 

Your travel insurance plan from World Nomads includes multiple benefits, and could also cover you for things like trip cancellation and trip interruption. However, the trip exchange benefit can’t be combined with your other travel insurance benefits.   • What if I need to cancel my trip as a result of the date change?

    If the dates are changed by the operator of your tour and you aren’t able to travel on the new dates proposed to you, you may be eligible for benefits. Depending on the reason for the date change, you may be covered under Trip Exchange, or one of the other benefits included in your travel insurance plan, such as trip cancellation. We encourage you to contact us if you have any questions.  

  • How do I submit a claim for Trip Exchange?

    Make sure you have all of your documentation together if you need to submit a claim. Always save all of your correspondence – and make sure it shows the new dates of your trip, as well as the costs associated with the date change. You’ll also need your original receipts showing what you paid. Once you have everything together, you can log in to your member account online to start a claim. If you didn’t create one previously, you can still create an account.
