Travel Insurance for travel accidents

Travel insurance can help with medical emergencies and evacuation if you get into an accident

Accidents have a way of catching you off guard – that’s why they’re called accidents. You could be skiing in the Alps when you fracture your wrist, or trekking on a remote peak when you sprain your ankle. Rather than going into panic mode or descending into downright despair, how about turning to your travel insurance? Your World Nomads plan can provide coverage if you have a travel accident, including medical treatment, hospital stays, ambulance rides, and more.

What is covered if I have a travel accident?

When you get injured while traveling, World Nomads may be able to cover you under different sections of your policy.

Emergency medical and evacuation

Suffered an injury? Got into a traffic accident? In a medical emergency – big or small – World Nomads travel insurance benefits can help get you reimbursed for:

  • Hospital stays
  • Out-patient surgery and treatment
  • Visits to medical practitioners
  • Prescription medications
  • Medical evacuation, including air ambulance

Accidents can happen abruptly without warning, so keep our contact numbers handy, and if the worst happens, you can get assistance quickly. Our 24/7 Emergency Assistance Team can help you out with a lot of things, including:

  • Emergency evacuation
  • Repatriation of remains
  • Emergency transportation after you’ve been stabilized
  • The return of dependent children back to your home
  • Medical and dental provider referrals
  • Transfer of medical records
  •  Medical monitoring.

For some of these services, such as evacuation, you’ll need to get pre-authorization from us; it’s always a good idea to ask us about our vetted network of providers and verify your coverage. We want you to get the best health outcome while maximizing your travel insurance benefits.

Accidental death and dismemberment

If you get seriously hurt – and lose your sight, a limb, or even your life – you (or a designated beneficiary) can get compensated for the loss, up to the maximum benefit amount specified in your policy.

The loss must have occurred within 365 days of the accident to receive benefits. We won’t get into the details here, but let’s just say that although the coverage is there, no amount of money is worth more than your limbs or your life.

What’s not covered if I have a travel accident?

  • Any accidents that happened when you under the influence of drugs or alcohol
  • Injuries not confirmed by a physician
  • Accidents resulting in participating in a sport or an activity that the policy does not cover
  • Taking unnecessary risks
  • Any losses related to a pre-existing condition
  • Search-and-rescue missions
  • Any claims that lack the proper documentation
  • Evacuation and emergency transportation not authorized by us.

This is not a full list of what's covered and what's not covered. There are limits and conditions that apply, so for more information check out our articles on emergency medical and adventure sports coverage, and read your policy carefully before you buy.
