After you’ve made the tough decision of choosing the perfect vacation destination, you may want to think about how to protect your trip with travel insurance coverage. Even though you can purchase a plan anytime (even when you’re already traveling), the timing of your purchase may affect your benefits. If you purchase the Explorer or Epic protection plan within the time sensitive period of 7 days of your initial trip deposit or payment being received, you may also be eligible for additional insurance components and plan offerings that could be valuable to you on your trip.
The initial deposit or payment could come in the form of purchasing a plane ticket or booking a hotel. It can also look like buying a tour or museum ticket. Whenever you put down money to secure your travels, this is when the time sensitive period starts. You then have 7 days to purchase either the Explorer or Epic Plan to be eligible for the additional components. Additional terms may apply. For more details you can compare the benefits of each plan side-by-side when you get a quote for travel insurance and non-insurance services.
| Explorer Plan | Epic Plan |
|---|---|
| Travel Inconvenience: $250 for each inconvenience, up to a maximum of $500 Optional Cancel for Any Reason: 50% of non-refundable payments, up to $5,000 Get a quote |
Travel Inconvenience: $250 for each inconvenience, up to a maximum of $750 Optional Cancel for Any Reason: 75% of non-refundable payments, up to $11,250 Get a quote |
When you get a quote for travel insurance and non-insurance services, we suggest comparing the benefits of each plan side-by-side so that you can choose the plan that best fits your needs. The Standard Plan is the cheapest, but the Explorer and Epic plans have higher maximum benefit amounts and additional benefits, including some that you could become eligible for if you purchase your plan within the time-sensitive period. If you’re a part of the 39% of Americans who take more than three trips per year*, you may also be interested in the annual plan.

If you buy your plan within 7 days of making your first trip deposit or payment, you can then add on the optional ‘cancel for any reason’ benefit at an additional cost. The cancel for any reason benefit allows you to cancel your trip for any reason not already covered by the plan. Meaning you may be partially reimbursed for non-refundable, prepaid and unused payments you’ve made towards your trip. Say you’ve broken up with your partner, your dog got sick or you’ve simply changed your mind about going; you may now get partial reimbursement. This benefit is especially handy for those trips that are big investments or booked far in advance. Additional terms and conditions apply. Not available to NY residents.
For the Explorer and Epics plans, if you buy the plan within 7 days of initial trip payment, you could be eligible for a Pre-Existing Medical Condition Exclusion Waiver. You must be medically able and not disabled from travel, based on physician assessment, when you buy the plan. A definition of a pre-existing condition can be found in your plan document.
Check your plan documents to see a full list of what may be covered and compare benefits side-by-side to help you decide which plan is right for you.
Covered travel inconvenience events may include: ski resort closures, tarmac delays, cruise diversions, missed work due to airline delays, rental car breakdown, and others. Please note that the travel inconvenience benefit is not available for residents of Missouri, Montana, New York, and Washington. Additional terms and conditions apply.
