Do I Have To Wait Until I Get Back Home To Make a Claim?

For information relating to policies purchased prior to October 23 2024, please check the Policy Wording provided with your purchase. You can contact us if you need this sent to you again. For plans purchased after October 23 2024, please see below.

If you have WiFi access, you can make a travel insurance* claim from anywhere in the world or even wait until you get back to the US, provided it’s within 20 days of the loss occurring. You just need to log into your account and put in the necessary information. You must make the claim within 20 days of the incident, or as soon as you are reasonably able. The rest is up to us! You are free to keep traveling and we’ll be in touch.

Before you start

  • Scan receipts and/or take photos of your belongings before you depart on your trip.  You’ll need proof that you own the items you are claiming for.
  • Injury or illness when traveling? Call the 24/7 Emergency Assistance Team for immediate help.
  • If your bags are lost, first try to resolve the issue with the travel provider and keep a copy of the paperwork. If an airline lost the bags, our non-insurance service partner, Blue Ribbon Bags, should be your next call (888-BAGGAGE) or online at www.tripmate.blueribbonbags.com.
  • Report damage of your baggage to your travel provider and keep a copy of the paperwork. Ask for compensation from your travel provider first before you file a travel insurance claim. Travel insurance is considered secondary, or excess, insurance meaning that you need to seek compensation first from other sources, like an airline.
  • Theft at your destination? Report it to the police as soon as possible (you’ll need the police report to file a claim)
  • Report any medical expenses incurred to your primary insurance first. Send us a copy of any expenses they denied to pay.
  • Gather any other documentation that may be related to your claim (i.e. new flight itinerary, doctor’s notes etc.). You’ll need to submit the documentation within 90 days.

*All information we provided here is a brief summary. It does not include all terms, conditions, limitations, exclusions, and termination provisions of the plans described. Please carefully read your state specific plan documents for a full description of coverage. Travel insurance is included as part of your travel protection plan which contains both insurance benefits and non-insurance assistance services. Material included on this page does not represent, nor is it specific to, United States Fire Insurance Company or travel insurance benefits provided on United States Fire Insurance Company’s travel protection plans.
