Cancelling travel plans is always disappointing – particularly when you had a date with the pyramids of Giza or a visit to the top of the Empire State Building. But if one of your immediate family members is sick and really needs you home, you may be covered for cancelled flights and other pre-paid, nonrefundable trip costs.
You may be covered for trip cancellation or interruption if any of the following people dies or develops a medical condition that prevents you from travelling, as certified by a physician:
If we approve your claim, we may be able to help with any prepaid, nonrefundable, unused travel expenses, up to the maximum limit of your plan.

While we provide reasonable coverage for family members, we can’t cover every single scenario. Coverage is not available for the following situations:
If you are concerned about a scenario not covered here, you may want to consider the optional ‘cancel-for-any-reason' benefit. If you have an Explorer or Epic plan, by adding this benefit (for an additional charge), you can cancel your trip for any reason. You must purchase this added benefit during the time-sensitive period.
