Am I Covered by Travel Insurance if I Need To See a Dentist?

Yes, World Nomads may be cover if you need to go to a dentist while abroad for emergency dental treatment.

What’s covered

Your policy can cover your dental expenses related to immediate pain relief only. This means the treatment is limited to the immediate relief of sudden and acute pain and will not include such things as general check-ups, replacement fillings or major dental work.

What you need to do if something happens:

  • Call our 24/7 Emergency Medical Assistance team for advice on your dental condition or if you need directions to the nearest or most suitable dentist.

  • Go to the dentist for the emergency dental treatment you need and obtain written certification from the dentist that the treatment was immediately required.

  • Confirm that the dentist treating you is registered and licensed to treat you in the local country.

  • You should pay the dental bills yourself and then make a claim online once all your treatment is finished or once you return home.

What’s not covered?

Here are the main things that aren’t covered:

  • Dental treatment which can wait until your return home.

  • Dental treatment which is not considered urgent or for the treatment of pain relief. This may include: general check-ups, replacement fillings, crowns, bridges and any other major dental work.

  • Any treatment which is related to or caused by a pre-existing medical condition, which is: Any medical or dental condition, or related complication that has required or is awaiting medical advice, diagnosis, treatment, prescribed medication, consultations, check-ups, surgery, tests or investigations in the 180 days before you buy or extend your policy or book your trip (whichever you do last).

  • Any dental expenses incurred after you return to Ireland.

  • Anything else that’s listed in the exclusions in the policy wording.

The policy isn’t designed to cover everything. Take the time to read the terms, conditions, limitations and exclusions in the policy wording for full details. If you have any questions, get in touch.
