Amongst many other benefits, your travel insurance policy includes coverage for emergency medical transportation and evacuation services.
Fun fact: New York has a limousine ambulance, Tokyo has a bus-sized ambulance, and you won’t care about either of those things in an emergency. That’s why our travel insurance not only covers ambulance but also transport via taxi and rideshare services if that’s the best and fastest option to get you to the hospital when you need to go.
The benefits your coverage includes:
Medical air evacuation to a hospital in your home province (when required)
Airfare for a medical attendant to accompany you (again, if required)
Ambulance or taxi fares/rideshare (when an ambulance is not available) to transport you to the nearest medical provider.
If, while travelling, you become ill, suffer an injury or get into an accident, you must call the 24/7 Emergency Assistance team, who will work with you to arrange the transportation you need.
We understand that sometimes it may be difficult to get a hold of the team when you’re dealing with an emergency. But you or someone else on your behalf should contact the 24/7 Emergency Assistance once you are the hospital.
Travel insurance is not designed to cover everything. For example, if you want a ride in that party limousine to the hospital, join the club - we all do! - but it may not be covered under your plan. Contact us before seeking medical treatment. Otherwise, you may find yourself without coverage for:
Expenses related to a pre-existing medical condition that was not stable and controlled
Any expenses once the initial emergency is over should you decline to return home for further medical treatment when recommended by the medical department
Any follow-up treatments or ongoing costs once you return to your home province
This is only a summary of coverage and does not include the full terms and conditions of the policy. It is important you read and understand your policy as it contains benefits, conditions, exclusions and pre-existing condition exclusions. If you do not understand your coverage, or if you have questions about your coverage just ask us.
