The world has no boundaries, but unfortunately, travel insurance does. World Nomads policies can go with you to most countries with a few exceptions.
We don’t offer coverage if you travel abroad to a country or region against the advice of the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade of the Canadian Government or Health Canada. In other words, you aren’t covered if you book a trip or buy a policy after a “defer travel” advisory has been issued.
Other countries we exclude are:
· Iran
· Syria
· Sudan
· North Korea
· Crimea region
· Cuba
If there are any changes to the countries we cover, the easiest way to check is by getting a quote and adding individual countries (such as Thailand, Vietnam, Laos) or regions (Asia, Europe, Worldwide) or a mix of both (Thailand, Vietnam, Asia) to the form. You won’t be able to buy insurance for a country we don’t cover, as the system won’t let you continue with the quote. Also, restrictions apply to countries experiencing war, or act of war, whether declared or not including civil war, acts of foreign enemies or rebellion. Read the policy for more details. It’s important to choose all the countries or regions you plan to travel to when you buy your plan.
We are prohibited from offering coverage to Canadian travellers who are travelling to certain countries that have economic or trade sanctions against it. Our policies will not provide any coverage if doing so would be in violation of any sanctions law or regulation.
If a country is subject to sanctions applicable to our underwriter, we are not able to offer coverage if you travel there. This means we cannot offer emergency evacuation or medical assistance in those countries. We also cannot pay any claims for events that may occur while you are there or that are related to your travel there.
If the Canadian Government has issued a travel warning for a country you’re planning to visit, you should be realistic about the assistance we will be able to provide – for example, we might not be able to offer an emergency evacuation or repatriation if the government of the country you’re in won’t allow it. We may not be able to provide assistance and/or you may not be eligible for coverage.
You should also expect to pay out of pocket for any expenses and then claim for your costs to be reimbursed once you’re back home.
Government warnings can be issued or changed without notice at any time, so always check the status with the Government of Canada's Travel advice and advisories (Travel.gc.ca) before you buy a plan and before you pay anything towards your trip, either deposits or the full amount.
Sanctions and government warnings change, so be sure to check the Government of Canada's latest travel advice.
