What am I covered for when it comes to terrorism?

If you get hurt in a terrorist attack or a terrorist attack prevents you from reaching your destination, World Nomads travel insurance may be able to help with trip cancellation or trip interruption coverage or provide emergency assistance, including medical.

If you find yourself suddenly caught in a terrorist event, first find safety and follow the advice of local authorities. When you can, contact the 24/7 Emergency Assistance team.

What does your coverage offer?

For coverage to take effect, you must have purchased the policy before the terrorist attack was announced in the media. If the Canadian government has issued a warning to avoid the destination, you can make a claim for your non-refundable travel arrangements such as flights and accommodations.

If you’re unexpectedly caught up in a terrorist attack and get injured, there may be coverage for emergency medical as long as you didn’t choose to visit an area where there were warnings of terrorist activity ahead of your travels.

In these cases, we may cover emergency medical assistance. Depending on what happened, this may include:

  • In-patient and out-patient care from a physician or other health care provider

  • Ambulance transportation or local taxi fare to get to medical facilities

  • Overnight hospitals stays

  • Prescription medication

  • Repatriation if you’re not fit to continue travelling, when medically necessary and pre-approved.

What may not be covered?

Unfortunately, we can’t cover everything. Our policies have no coverage for:

  • If the Canadian government has issued a “do not travel” advisory for that region and you went there anyway.

  • If you decide to change your travel plans out of fear because there is a terrorist attack at the destination.

  • For personal items you left behind in a speedy evacuation.

  • For any medical expenses after you’ve returned home.

This is only a summary of coverage and does not include the full terms and conditions of the policy.  It is important you read and understand your policy as it contains benefits, conditions, exclusions and pre-existing condition exclusions.  If you do not understand your coverage or if you have questions, just ask us.
