Buy More Travel Insurance Coverage Online

For information relating to policies purchased prior to October 23 2024, please check the Policy Wording provided with your purchase. You can contact us if you need this sent to you again. For plans purchased after October 23 2024, please see below.

If you want to travel longer, you can buy a new travel insurance* plan online while you are traveling. You must buy a new plan for the new dates; you cannot extend your existing coverage.

How to buy more coverage

First, compare plans to see what coverage is right for you. Then, get a quote and buy online, from anywhere in the world. Be sure to list all the countries you plan to visit when you buy your plan (you can also select Worldwide if you’re not sure where else you’ll go on this big adventure). You can purchase a plan for as little as one day, up to a maximum of 180 days per single trip plan (45 days for an Annual Plan). We’ll send your plan documents via email.

What to know when buying more coverage

There are a few important things you should know if you want to buy more coverage while you’re already traveling:

  • Your coverage will start at 12:01 a.m. local time, the day after you purchase the plan. So if, for example, you extend your trip and want to buy a plan to cover you for an additional day of skiing or a weekend away, you need to buy it the day before your activities are scheduled.
  • Known events (for example, named hurricanes and pre-existing medical conditions) are not covered. So, if you had to seek medical care under your original plan, whatever you sought care for could now be considered a pre-existing condition and would not be covered under the new one.
  • You won’t be able to buy more cover if you’re 70 years old (or older), or if you are no longer a resident of the United States.

Read the Description of Coverage carefully to understand how these exclusions may affect your trip.

*All information we provided here is a brief summary. It does not include all terms, conditions, limitations, exclusions, and termination provisions of the plans described. Please carefully read your state specific plan documents for a full description of coverage. Travel insurance is included as part of your travel protection plan which contains both insurance benefits and non-insurance assistance services. Material included on this page does not represent, nor is it specific to, United States Fire Insurance Company or travel insurance benefits provided on United States Fire Insurance Company’s travel protection plans.
