Congrats! While it’s exciting to welcome a new nomad into this glorious world, it’s important to understand how pregnancy affects your travel insurance coverage.
For information relating to policies purchased prior to 14 July 2021 12:00am UTC, please check the Policy Wording provided with your purchase. You can contact us if you need this sent to you again. For policies purchased from 14 July 2021 please see below.
There may be cover for some pregnancy complications (as defined in the Policy Wording), under certain conditions. World Nomads’ plans class pregnancy as a ‘pre-existing medical condition’. This is a general exclusion, which means the policy doesn’t provide coverage for any pregnancy-related claim. The exception is for pregnancy complications that arise from an accidental bodily injury or unexpected illness which occurs while on your trip, excluding events that occur during the period between 12 weeks before the expected due date and 12 weeks after the expected due date.
The pregnancy might be yours, your traveling companion’s or that of a close family member back home.
If you are eligible, coverage will include:
It’s a good idea to have a general medical check-up before you go on your trip. Talk to your doctor about ways to look after your health abroad, such as travel vaccines, food safety and any activities to avoid while pregnant. You should also check out risks from getting infected with the Zika virus and COVID-19 and take the necessary precautions.
Like any pre-existing medical condition there is no coverage for routine or ongoing medical expenses, or general exclusions outlined in your policy, including:
The policy isn’t designed to cover everything, so take the time to read the terms, conditions, limitations and exclusions in the Policy Wording for full details so that there are no surprises if you need to use it. If you’re not sure if something is covered, get in touch.
