Am I covered by travel insurance if I need to see a dentist?

Yes, there's cover if you need to go to a dentist for unexpected, immediate and necessary emergency dental treatment while travelling.

What’s covered

  • Expenses you incur during your trip for care ordered, prescribed or received from a licensed registered dentist if you need emergency dental treatment to repair or replace your natural or permanently attached artificial teeth because of an accidental blow to your face or mouth; and expenses for continuing care after you return to your home province and completed within 180 days of your return, up to the benefit limit; or

  • Expenses you incur during your trip, up to the benefit limit, for emergency dental treatment required because of an emergency due to a cause other than an accidental blow to your face or mouth; and

  • Expenses you incur for prescription medication as a result of the emergency

What you need to do if something happens

  • Call the emergency assistance team for advice on your dental condition or if you need directions to the nearest or most suitable dentist or medical facility.

  • Go to a licensed, registered dentist for the emergency dental treatment you need; or

  • Your treating dentist must be registered and licensed and must certify in writing that your treatment was to relieve sudden and acute pain caused by an injury or accidental injury to your natural teeth

  • You should pay the dental bills yourself then make a claim online once all your treatment is finished

What’s not covered

The policy isn’t designed to cover everything. Take the time to read the terms and conditions in your policy for full details.
Here are the main things that aren’t covered:

  • Dental treatment which is can wait until your return home

  • Damage to dentures, dental prostheses, bridges or crowns if not permanently attached artificial teeth

  • Treatment once the emergency ends and you are able to return to your home province for further treatment after one follow up visit.

  • Any pre-existing medical condition

This is only a summary of coverage and does not include the full terms and conditions of the policy. It is important you read and understand your policy as it contains benefits, conditions, exclusions and pre-existing condition exclusions. If you do not understand your coverage, or if you have questions about your coverage, just ask us.
