Am I covered if I need to cancel/reschedule my trip?

World Nomads travel insurance plans include coverage for trip cancellation and trip interruption. If you need to delay, cancel or reschedule your trip before you leave home or your trip is interrupted after your departure, you may be able to make a claim for reimbursement under your plan.

What does your coverage offer?

There are a million reasons why you might want to cancel your trip. Maybe you’re fighting with your travel companions and can’t stand the thought of spending time with them. Or maybe you decided that the money might be better spent somewhere else. Or it could be as simple as you’ve just changed your mind. While travel insurance won’t cover these reasons, there are a number of other events that qualify for cancellation coverage:

  • A death in your or your travel companion’s immediate family.
  • You or your travel companion have developed a medical condition and your doctor advises that travel is not an option.
  • A travel advisory has been issued by the Canadian Government or Canadian health authority, warning against travel to your trip destination (however, there is no coverage if the advisory is issued due to an epidemic or pandemic).
  • Your destination residence is destroyed as the result of a natural disaster or unintentional act and you can’t live in the residence.
  • A strike at the departure point or destination meaning you can’t travel to your destination.

What may not be covered?

Travel insurance is not designed to cover everything, so take the time to read the policy wording for full details on what may not be covered.

For example:

  • You’ve arranged travel already knowing of circumstances that could lead to the trip being disrupted or canceled.
  • A pre-existing medical condition(s) that has not been stable and controlled during the 90-day period immediately preceding your start date.
  • A travel visa or passport that is not issued in time for your trip due to your late application or a previous refusal.
  • A travel advisory was issued before you purchased insurance for your trip.
  • A travel advisory was issued because of a pandemic or epidemic.

This is only a summary of coverage and does not include the full terms and conditions of the policy. It is important you read and understand your policy as it contains benefits, conditions, exclusions and pre-existing condition exclusions. If you do not understand your coverage or if you have questions, just ask us.
