Mexico Violence – February 2026

We understand there are concerns about the recent violent events occurring in Mexico. Here is important information about how your Travel Protection plans may apply:

General Coverage Information

Travel Protection benefits can vary depending on the specific plan you purchased and the state where it was issued. Please review your plan documents for full details. Because this event is now considered known and no longer unforeseen, plans purchased on or after February 22nd will not provide coverage related to this incident.

Explorer or Epic Plan – Cancel for Any Reason (CFAR)

If guests purchased the optional CFAR, they may be able to cancel their trip under the Cancel for Any Reason benefit. This benefit reimburses up to 50% or 75% of your nonrefundable trip cost, if you cancel within the guidelines listed in your plan.

Trip Cancellation Coverage

At this time, there is no Trip Cancellation coverage.

Coverage for Travelers Already on Their Trip

If travelers are currently traveling, certain benefits may help such as Missed Connection and Trip Delay.  These may apply if Your flight is delayed or cancelled for specified reasons preventing you from returning home.

Explorer or Epic Plan – Missed Connection Benefits:

If you experience a 3-hour or longer delay, you may be reimbursed additional transportation costs.

Trip Delay Benefits

If you experience a 6-hour or longer delay, you may be reimbursed for additional expenses such as, extra hotel nights, meals and/ or other necessary costs due to the delay.

Political or Security Evacuation*

The Political or Security Evacuation must occur within 14 days of the Political or Security Event, and the arrangements will be by the most appropriate and by most efficient, practical and economical means available and consistent with Your health and safety.

* Political or Security Event means: 1. civil, military or political unrest for which a formal written recommendation from the appropriate local government authorities, or the U.S. State Department, for You to leave a country is issued; 2. You being expelled or declared a persona non-grata by a country You are visiting on Your Trip.

Current Status of Local Airports

As of now, the government has not officially closed the airport. If that changes, the types of coverage available may change as well.
