For information relating to policies purchased prior to 18 May 2022, please check the Policy Document provided with your purchase. You can contact us if you need this sent to you again. For policies purchased on or from 18 May 2022 please see below.
If you decide to travel longer, we can help keep you covered!
You can extend your trip and top up your policy online. You can also buy a new policy while travelling if your policy has expired.
Simply sign in to your World Nomads membership, select your current policy and follow the links to buy more cover online.
Your policy will provide more cover for the duration you choose, up to a maximum of 12 months, and your policy certificate will be re-issued and saved in your membership page, so check this carefully.
Do read the section in the Policy Document on “Buying cover when you extend your trip” for full details on when you can extend and the conditions that apply.
If you or anyone else your trip depends on has been sick or injured during your trip, then these medical or dental conditions during your initial policy period will be considered an existing medical condition in the new (extended) period of cover. That means that any expenses related to this existing condition may not be covered (unless it’s already been agreed by the insurer to cover it before you extend your policy). You should read the section on “health conditions & your policy” for full details on when conditions are automatically covered and what’s not covered.
If you’ve bought expensive gear during your trip and you want to cover it for a higher value on your policy, then you can buy a new policy to specify all of your high value items on this new policy and get more cover at the same time.
If you buy this new policy before the old one ends, make sure there are no gaps in coverage between the two policies to avoid the 72 hour waiting period explained in “Buying a policy while travelling”. You’ll also automatically get a 5% member discount off on this new policy.
You won’t be able to buy more cover (extend) your policy if it’s already expired, if you’re 70 years old (or older) or if the policy/product you bought is no longer available.
This is only a summary of cover and does not include the full terms, conditions, limits, and exclusions of the policy. You should read your Policy Document in full, so you understand what is and isn’t covered. If you are unsure about your level of travel cover, please contact us for help.
