Are you taking high value items with you on your adventures and want them covered for more than what’s automatically offered under the standard baggage limits for theft or damage?
With our travel insurance plans you have the option to upgrade and pay an additional premium to increase the cover for your tablet, laptop, camera, mobile phone or any other high value item (except jewellery) up to NZD$3,000 each. Some types of luggage aren’t covered by the policy, and can’t be specified, including bike, musical instruments, or watercraft (except surfboards).
To upgrade your cover for your high value items, simply list these items on your policy when you are purchasing and pay the additional premium.
You can also add high value items after you buy by logging into your membership, however you MUST add your high value items to your policy before your policy start date. It will be too late to add these items once your policy starts.
If you buy items while travelling, they can be covered under the standard baggage limits.
We don’t apply depreciation (wear and tear) to high value item claims, so you can claim up to the amount you insured it for. However, be aware that any specified valuable items claim will have the NZD$100 policy excess applied (per event).
You can cover your high value item up to its original purchase price (up to NZD$3,000 max). Just make sure you have the receipt showing this purchase price and your ownership, as you’ll need it to make a claim.
The amount you pay to upgrade the cover on your high value item/s depends on two things: the cost of your high value item and how long you’re travelling for.
We do not allow for jewellery to be specified. Additionally, a specified item must be a personal item owned by you and that you take with you or buy on your trip, which is designed to be worn or carried about with you and where you can provide proof of ownership. So you won't be able to list a car (yes...some travellers have tried!) or any of the following as specified high value items.
We'll pay for theft or accidental damage of your high value specified items according to the policy terms, conditions and exclusions outlined in the Policy Document.
This is only a summary of cover and does not include the full terms, conditions, limits, and exclusions of the policy. You should read your Policy Document in full, so you understand what is and isn’t covered. If you are unsure about your level of travel cover, please contact us for help.
