What you need to do if your baggage has been permanently lost:
Notify the carrier immediately and obtain a written Property Irregularity Report (PIR). If you can’t obtain a PIR immediately, then you must follow up within 7 days in writing to obtain this document.
Keep any luggage checks and air tickets to support your claim.
Provide evidence of proof of ownership and value for your personal baggage. Note that you must supply an original receipt, valuation report or other acceptable proof of ownership and value to support your claim.
Have you already made a claim for delayed baggage while you were waiting optimistically for your lost bags to arrive? If so, just be aware that any amount paid out will be deducted from the final claim settlement of your lost baggage claim.
Travel insurance is not designed to cover everything, so take the time to read the full description of cover in the policy wording so there are no surprises if you do need to use it, particularly Specific Exclusions under Section 4 and the General Exclusions of the policy.
The loss to valuables and any specified items are not covered if left in checked–in baggage or if left unattended at any time (including in the custody of carriers).
