What does trip delay cover?

Sometimes getting to or from a place isn’t as easy as you would want it to be. If your trip gets delayed by the minimum time mentioned in your policy, you may be covered for accommodation, meals, local transportation, and other basic expenses that you’ve had to incur as a result of the delay.

In order to qualify for this benefit, your travels must have been delayed by a reason mentioned as covered under the policy, these could include those caused by weather or your common carrier (though we would recommend that you check your individual plan, as coverage varies according to your country of residence). Other requirements may include the length of the delay – which usually starts from six hours but could be up to 12.

Be sure to keep a copy of all of your receipts so that you can submit them with your claim. If the travel delay happened on commercial transportation, you’ll need to file a claim with your carrier before asking for reimbursement under your travel insurance.

This is only a summary of coverage and does not include the full terms and conditions of the policy. You should read your policy wording in full so you understand what is and isn’t covered. That way there won’t be any surprises if you need to use it. If you have any questions, please get in touch.
