World Nomads Travel Insurance Photo and Film Scholarship 2024 results

Thank you to everyone who took part

Over 3,000 aspiring photographers and filmmakers poured their passion, talent, and creativity into their submission - and the competition was fierce. After much deliberation, we're excited to announce the three winners. We can’t wait to see what they create on Safari!

Galia Kleinburg – Mexico

Galia, your entry grabbed our attention and took us on a journey. Your use of sound design, strong opening, music, speed ramping and transitions, all showed a nuance and innate story telling ability. Your shot selection, and final shot placement in your video showed us the majestic, the spiritual, the hustle and the quiet moments of your adventure. Your work will have strong commercial appeal and your clear talent in both the capture and editing sides of production are highly valuable. We look forward to mentoring you on your journey and we’re excited to see what you produce on assignment in Africa!

Gabriel Mungarrieta - Germany

Gabe, the biggest challenge that creators face is to stand out from the noise of millions of other talented operators. Following trends and taking inspiration from others is important, but a defining style, a unique visual identity, is critical to establishing your personal creative brand. Your video entry showed us a whimsical and authentic style that we loved. Your use of frames and transitions perfectly added to your story. In a world of homogenised content and AI generation, your ability to tell a story with skill and authenticity is important. It certainly resonated with us and we can’t wait to see what you create on our African adventure.

Darcy Keely - Australia

Darcy, we loved your video entry. It conveyed an emotion and a sense of place that feels like it was created by someone who lives in South Korea, not someone who visited. We felt like you were revealing the secrets of the city, an insiders’ view of what means to be enveloped in these locations. You made a hero of the small joys of travel and the lesser known elements of the location. Your bold music selection worked really well, as did the organic, hand-held style with subtle and well-balanced transitions. They say that skills can be taught, but story tellers are born. Your innate story telling ability is clear and we’re really looking forward to seeing your work and development on our exciting African expedition.
