Frequently Asked Questions
Have you been regularly commissioned to make content (in any genre) or derive more than 25% of your income from any aspect of content creation? If so, you would be considered a professional and are not eligible to apply.
If you're still learning the craft and creating content is responsible for less than 25% of your income, then you’re eligible to apply. This may mean you’ve had work commissioned in the past or keep a regular social channel or blog of your own – but it isn’t your full-time gig.
We will be asking shortlisted applicants to outline their experience to date before selecting winners.
We will be asking our winners to travel within a 4-hour flight of their home city to complete a content creation assignment. Destinations will be chosen by winners in consultation with the mentors and World Nomads.
If your chosen destination requires international travel then you will need to ensure you hold a valid passport, with at least six months left before expiry.
If your destination is domestic, then you will not need a current passport to travel.
We want to see your best, most creative travel content and understand why you think you should win this opportunity.
Your submitted content must:
Your 150 word or less answer to ‘why you should win’ needs to convince our judges that you have a passion for travel and creating content as a career.
We will be weighting your entry based on submitted content (80%) and your 150 word or less answer (20%).
Yes, your submission can be an older post or content you have created, or something new you’ve created from older footage. Your submission can also be made with new images and footage – it is totally up to you. It must not have been used to win prizes in any other competitions or promotions.
We will not be judging content based on its age, the important thing is the content tells a travel story or experience and showcases your creativity, storytelling and execution skills.
Any image posts submitted must be your own work.
For video, vlog and blog posts, while the majority of the images or footage should be your own, you may use some images or footage captured by someone else, provided you have permission to use it.
By applying for this scholarship, you warrant that your content is original, owned by you (or you have permission to use it as outlined above) and is your own work.
Yes, your content must be publicly available to view so our judges can access it, and it may be publicly displayed on our website or social media channels.
If your content is behind a password-gate, it will not be considered. If you would like your content removed from the World Nomads website or social channels if used, please email scholarships@worldnomads.com. Please note, your contact details will not be made public.
The 4 scholarship winners will each receive prizes valued at RRP $6,335 USD:
*The winner is required to purchase the policy via a reputable travel insurance provider and ensure the policy suits their individual objectives, needs and financial situation. See terms and conditions for full details.
Each winner will be required to use their travel budget to book a 3–4-day trip, where they will create content on assignment to meet a supplied brief.
The trip must be within a 4-hour flight of the winner’s home city. Destinations and content to be shot on the trip will be workshopped and agreed in consultation with the mentors and World Nomads.
World Nomads will use content created on their website and social channels and provide exposure for the winners to our audiences. Campaign partners will also reserve the right to use the trip content in marketing, website and social media.
Each winner will need to be available to complete their Content Creation Trips between 7 December 2022 and 28 February 2023.
Trips are to be of 3-4 days in duration, or alternatively if a winner opts to stay longer, all content must be shot within a 3–4-day timeframe.
Winners can choose the period that they travel within this timeframe, in consultation with the mentors (Nomadasaurus) and World Nomads. Travel must also take place after winners have received prizes from Sony and RØDE, as these will be required for use on your Content Creation Trip.
Our aim is to have all winners complete mentoring sessions before and after their trips, and for Nomadasaurus to be available to answer question via WhatsApp chat during the trip periods (pending availability).
The travel period is final and winners must complete their Content Creation Trip between 7 December 2022 and 28 February 2023.
Within that period, each winner can choose their 3–4-day travel dates, in consultation with the mentors (Nomadasaurus) and World Nomads. Winner’s should consider the deadline for submitting all assigned trip content which is 31 January 2023 when planning travel.
Winners will be required to create content from their trip, including:
We expect this content to include a mix of content shot and recorded on location; along with some editing and post-production completed after the trip.
The mentors (Nomadasaurus) will work with you to confirm times when they will be available to assist with feedback, advice and mentoring to help you develop the best content possible. It is possible the above outputs may change once all winners have met with our mentors.
You may also be required to keep a video diary about your time on the trip and to write about your experience on the World Nomads website.
Mentoring will include up to 6 hours of personalised 1-on-1 coaching sessions online via video chat, per Recipient.
Mentoring will be conducted over 3-4 sessions, pending needs and availability. This is to include a minimum of 1 session Pre-Assignment Trip and 1-session Post-Assignment Trip to assist with development of the trip content.
Sessions will be tailored to each winner to help them achieve their goals and address areas of improvement. This could include anything from technical skills to business advice.
