Taking the children along this time? We love seeing young travelers discover the world. With World Nomads, you may be able to cover up to seven of your children—if you’re adventurous enough to bring them all!

Why should I get travel protection for my family trip?

Traveling with children is full of adventure—and a few inevitable squabbles along the way. But when children are part of the journey, even minor travel disruptions can feel significant. Travel insurance coverage for families may help you manage those unexpected moments and keep your trip on track.

Travel insurance for your family trip may help cover medical emergencies, trip interruptions, or other unexpected events that can disrupt your journey.

What happens if a parent or caregiver becomes ill or injured while on a trip with the children? World Nomads Travel Insurance plans for families may cover the transport of your minor children back home—accompanied by an attendant if necessary—if an insured adult is hospitalized for at least seven days or passes away during the trip.

With travel protection available for children and parents, you can focus on making memories, knowing your family may be protected if things don’t go as planned.

*Offerings may vary based on plan purchased and state of residence. Full terms of the plan apply.

How can World Nomads Travel Insurance cover me and my family?

World Nomads offers simple and flexible travel protection plans, designed for travelers by travelers, to help you travel confidently on your next family vacation. Our four plans each offer differing levels of coverage, so it’s important you compare plans and pick the best one for your family trip. Subject to terms and conditions, most of our plans offer coverage for:

What may not be covered?

  • Pre-existing Conditions. However, you could be eligible for the Pre-Existing Medical Condition Exclusion Waiver if you purchased the Epic or Explorer plan during the time-sensitive period. Additional terms apply.
  • Participation in activities not listed in our 250+ sports, activities and experiences

Are dependents covered up to the same plan limits?

Yes! The maximum benefit amount shown on the plan is the maximum amount payable per person (including children) based on the Standard, Explorer or Epic plan selected.

Who can be covered under one travel protection plan for a family trip?

When you buy a travel protection plan for family trips, coverage may extend to:

  • Parents or legal guardians traveling with their dependent children (see plan document for definition).
  • Families who live in the same U.S. state and are S. residents.
  • Trips where at least one adult is the legal guardian of the dependent children.
  • Up to seven dependent children included on one travel protection plan.

If your children don’t meet the above requirements, you can purchase single plans for each one. When you get a quote, be sure to list all dependents who will be traveling with you on the plan to help ensure coverage for your whole family.

Top safety tips we recommend for your family trip

  • Have a “Who to Contact First” Plan: Write down your hotel number, your emergency contact back home, local emergency number, and your travel insurance emergency line and policy number. Keep it on paper and in your mobile in case batteries run low.
  • Set a Family Meeting Point: For each place you visit (such as an airport, museum, beach, etc.) choose a specific spot if someone becomes separated. Make it precise, like “Under the main departures board,” not “near security.”
  • Share Live Location: Use Find My iPhone, WhatsApp, Google Location Sharing, etc to keep track of everyone family member in real time. Turn on battery-saver mode during long days out. If your child is too young for a cellphone, consider putting an AirTag on their shoe or backpack.
  • Split Important Cards and Cash: Don’t keep all bank cards, cash, and passports in the same bag. Each adult (or responsible teen) carries one payment card and a copy of ID.
  • Create Digital Backups of Documents Like: your passports, visas, travel insurance details, prescriptions, etc. Save them in a password-protected cloud folder and on a small USB.
  • Check with the US Department of State to see if they have issued any travel advisories for your destination.
  • Enroll in the free Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to stay updated on emergency situations.
