What is the Travel Insurance Policy Excess/Deductible?

As we've recently changed our insurer, please select the date you bought your policy:

Policies purchased on or after 27 June 2024
Policies purchased after 1 September 2021 up to 26 June 2024

For policies purchased on or after 27 June 2024:

Your policy mentions two kinds of excess:

  • A waiting period is the period of time you have to wait before certain kinds of cover are available.
  • A policy excess is an amount of money that is deducted from any claim payouts.

For UK residents, the excess is applicable for each insured person making a claim, per insured event (unless it is stated otherwise), as follows:

  • Section 7 Trip Disruption: £100
  • Section 8 Medical: £100
  • Section 9 Personal Belongings: £100
  • Section 10 Personal Accident and Personal Liability: £100
  • Section 11 Adventure, Study, Work and Volunteer: £100

Depending on what you claim for, the policy excess is applied per person, per insured event. This excess may be deducted from any payouts, or you may have to pay the excess before a claim is payable to you. Sorry, it's not possible to buy out the excess. The summary of cover in your policy wording lists the policy benefits and the excesses that apply to each.
