Am I covered by travel insurance if my bags are delayed?

If your bags do not reach you and have been delayed in arriving by 24 hours or more on your outward journey, you can make a claim for necessary and essential clothing, toiletries and medications that you cannot live without.

What you need to do if your bags are delayed

  • You must notify the carrier immediately and obtain a written Property Irregularity Report (PIR).
  • Keep all of your receipts for the necessities you buy. Make sure these receipts are time and date stamped prior to receiving your baggage.
  • Keep any luggage checks and air tickets as they may be needed to support your claim.

What’s not covered

Travel insurance is not designed to cover everything, so take the time to read the full description of cover in the policy wording so there are no surprises if you do need to use it. if you need any assistance please get in touch.

There's no cover for:

  • The purchase of essential items if your bags are delayed on the way home to your country of residence (it’s expected that you’ll have other clothes to wear once your return home).
  • Any items that wouldn’t be considered ‘essential’.
  • Any items purchased within the 24 hours after your scheduled arrival time at your destination abroad.
  • Anything mentioned in the General or Specific Exclusions of the policy.
