Pelvic Inflammatory Disease in Madagascar

How we helped when this nomad got abdominal pain in Madagascar

I started to feel some lower abdominal pain while on vacation in Madagascar. It got worse over the weekend, so I went to a gynecologist because I suspected it might be Pelvic Inflammatory Disease due to the IUD I use for contraception. I’m a doctor myself, so it turned out my suspicions were correct. I was prescribed 2 courses of antibiotics and had to return one week later. The doctor said I was healthy enough to travel back home to South Africa before I needed another visit.

How World Nomads Helped

They reimbursed me for my 2 doctor visits while abroad, as well as blood tests and antibiotics. Once home I was able to use my own insurance for the follow up visit.
