How we helped when this nomad got robbed in Bolivia
My friend and I were taking a taxi back to our hostel in La Paz, Bolivia after dinner one night. After a short while in the taxi, I had the feeling that we were heading in the wrong direction and sure enough, two minutes later the taxi pulled down a side street and stopped. Two men flung open the back doors and jumped in on either side of my friend and I. They restrained us, held a knife to my throat, and started yelling in Spanish. They checked us for any valuables as the taxi drove to their house. They took my silver neck chain, all of our cash, my camera – and then threatened to rape my friend if I did not give them my PIN numbers to my bank cards. In all they withdrew around AUD $1200 from my accounts while they held us for two and a half hours at their house somewhere in La Paz. Eventually they drove us from the house, pepper sprayed us in the eyes and dumped us on a corner in the middle of nowhere. Luckily someone found us and helped us get back to our hostel since we had nothing.
They compensated me for my camera.
PAID AUD $200.00
