Sustainable fishing from a handmade boat on the Uruguayan coast.
21 Sep 2018 - 5 Minute Read
When I was a teenager, I went on a backpacking trip along the coast of Uruguay. I remember going to Punta Diablo, and I fell in love with the views and the traditional, handmade boats. When I went back 13 years later looking for a story to tell, the locals introduced me to Robert. I’m not sure if everyone builds their own boat, but he did, which makes it more special.
I found him really inspiring – he’s had a hard life, but he’s proud and happy to be a fisherman. When he speaks, he’s full of gratitude – he feels like he was chosen to live in this beautiful place, and I was grateful to learn from him.
