If you have decided to travel longer, we can help keep you covered. As long as you extend your policy before 11:59pm on the end date shown on your Certificate of Insurance, you can extend your trip and top up your policy online. You can also buy a new policy while traveling if your policy has expired.
If you are eligible for an extension per the terms of the Policy Wording, all you need to do is sign in to your World Nomads membership, select your current policy, and follow the links to buy more cover online and follow the purchase path.
Your policy can be purchased for the duration you choose (from 1 day up to 12 months), and your new policy certificate will be issued and saved in your membership, so check this carefully.
Note: If you plan to extend your policy, you should make sure to reach out to us a few days before your current policy expires; that way, we can make sure we can assist you.
Any illness or injury which has come into existence, or has shown symptoms, or has been diagnosed, or received treatment for in the previous insurance period(s), won’t be covered in the new insurance period, unless the purchase of the new insurance period was made before the illness or injury occurred or had shown symptoms.
You cannot extend your insurance period after the issue date. However, you can purchase a new policy to cover an additional insurance period. We will waive any waiting period as long as the current insurance period has not ended, and the new insurance period has a commencement date that immediately follows the end date of the current insurance period.
If you’ve bought expensive gear during your trip and you want to cover it for a higher value on your policy, then you can buy a new policy to specify all of your high-value items on this new policy and get more cover at the same time.
The maximum duration available for any policy, including all extensions, is 12 months from the Departure date. For further details on extensions, refer to ‘Buying cover when you extend your trip’ in your Policy Wording.
You will not be covered if you are 66 years of age or more at the commencement date of the insurance. You must be under 66 years of age (65 or less) at the commencement date.
This is only a summary of cover and does not include the full terms, conditions, limits, and exclusions of the policy. You should read your Policy Wording in full, so you understand what is and isn’t covered. If you are unsure about your level of travel cover, please contact us for help.
