A powerful 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck offshore north of Flores Island in East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia on 15 August 2026 local time, triggering a tsunami warning for parts of eastern Indonesia. The earthquake caused strong ground shaking, landslides, damage to homes, public buildings and infrastructure, and disruptions to transport and local services. Authorities issued evacuation warnings for coastal areas and tsunami waves were recorded in some locations before the warning was later lifted. Numerous aftershocks have continued to affect the region. Travellers to affected areas may experience delays, cancellations, restricted access, accommodation disruptions and other travel impacts.
