Chile and Argentina are known for their natural beauty, warm and friendly people and passion for football and tango. When travelling around Argentina and Chile, you’ll find activities aplenty and natural attractions that need to be seen to be believed. Try trekking and camping in Patagonia, sip some vino at wineries in Salta and Mendoza, or go hiking in the Atacama Desert, the driest place on Earth (aside from the poles).
No matter your plans, you may want to consider travel insurance to protect against unforeseen circumstances.
With World Nomads, you can buy travel insurance when you book your trip from home or while you're already travelling around Chile and Argentina. Our plans offer cover (up to the benefit limits) for:
Make sure you’ve selected the right travel insurance plan for your specific needs. We offer two types of plans, Standard and Explorer, depending on the amount of cover you need.
Chile and Argentina offer outdoor adventures for all types and ages of travellers. Some highlights include:
World Nomads offers cover for more than 150 activities. You will need to list the activities you plan to participate in when you purchase your policy. Our base plan cost covers various adventure sports, activities and volunteer and work experience. You’ll have to pay an additional premium to cover more adventurous endeavors.
There may also be special conditions and exclusions of cover for your chosen activities. Be sure to read your policy documents for full details of any conditions or exclusions that apply to each activity.
Argentina and Chile are amongst the most-visited adventure travel destinations in the world. Despite your best efforts to stay safe and well, injuries and illnesses can happen. Travel insurance can help if you get injured or sick and need urgent medical assistance.
Our 24/7 Emergency Assistance Team can get you help in the event of an emergency, whether you need to visit a doctor or need an ambulance transfer to a hospital that can treat your condition.
Get in touch with the emergency assistance team before undergoing any medical treatment; you will need pre-authorization before undergoing medical procedures, or in situations where medical evacuation is required.
While Chile and Argentina are considered relatively safe tourist destinations, petty thieves and pickpockets frequent some of the most popular tourist hotpots like La Boca, and other parts of major cities like Buenos Aires and Santiago. When in crowded areas in any Chilean or Argentinian city, always maintain a sense of awareness of your surroundings.
The safety precautions you should take in Argentina and Chile are essentially the same as anywhere else: don’t take unlicensed taxis, don’t wander around alone at night, and avoid calling too much attention to yourself, including wearing flashy jewelry.
Motorcycle robberies - called ‘motochorro’ in Argentina – are common. This is where two people on a motorcycle grab your bag or whatever is in your hand as they pass you and take off.
In Chile, large-scale demonstrations sometimes occur in Santiago and other cities. Demonstrations can take place with little or no notice, and often result in disruptions to transportation, including service on public buses and the Santiago Metro.
It’s important to keep a close eye on your belongings at all times while you are travelling. A backpack stolen from an unlocked car, or a phone left unattended then stolen from a public bathroom are not likely to be covered. If you have been the victim of theft, you’ll need to report it to the local police as soon as possible.
Traveller tip: make copies of all key documents you’ll be travelling with – passport, ID, travel insurance, receipts, vouchers, addresses, transportation tickets – and keep them separate from the originals while abroad so you’ll have backups and proof of purchase if anything happens.

I fell on my side and heard the sound of dry stick breaking, I realized my leg was broken, then I just lay on the beach... The first phone call I got was from World Nomads and they basically told me, you don't worry about this Anton, just focus on getting better...and we'll take care of the rest.
