As a remote worker embracing a nomadic lifestyle, your workplace transcends boundaries, offering countless opportunities to set up shop anywhere with just a laptop and cell phone in hand. World Nomads travel insurance plans are designed by travelers for travelers to align with the flexibility of your on-the-go lifestyle.

For instance, if you're a digital nomad and don’t have health insurance coverage outside Brazil, travel insurance can help with unexpected illness and injury while you're abroad. Or if you've already checked in your luggage and are ready for your flight, only to be alerted of a trip delay due to poor weather conditions. With travel insurance you may be reimbursed for basic expenses, such as food, toiletries and accommodation that you had to pay for because of the delay, or for non-refundable, pre-paid portions of your trip that you've had to forfeit because of the delay.

You can secure a policy for periods extending up to 180 days or opt for multiple plans to ensure continuous coverage up to a year. You can even purchase travel insurance when you’re already traveling. When you get a quote, you can compare our plans and choose the one that best suits your needs.

What's covered

Tech and gear coverage

In today's tech-driven world, carrying your electronics on the road is as common and crucial as packing clothes - especially for digital nomads. Our travel insurance plans are tailor-made to address  your tech-centric lifestyle and our policies may offer cover for a wide range of gadgets: smartphones, tablets, Kindles, cameras, lenses and laptops. Compare our Standard, Explorer and Explorer Plus plans for residents in Brazil to select the best coverage for you.

In the unfortunate event of theft, loss, or damage to your personal tech devices under your supervision, World Nomads may step in to reimburse the associated costs of replacement or repair. It's important to note that these benefits become accessible only after exhausting other potential compensation sources, such as claims from your airline or other transportation providers. Keep in mind that depreciation and wear and tear are considered, and claims are subject to specific items and overall maximum benefit limits.

Overseas medical

Extended travel raises the question of how to handle unforeseen accidents or severe illnesses. When crises strike away from home, facing them alone is the last thing you want. With our overseas medical insurance you can reach out to our 24/7 Emergency Assistance team when you find yourself in urgent situations.

It's crucial to understand that travel insurance is not a substitute for a comprehensive healthcare plan you might have back home, nor should you rely on the goodwill of another country to cover your medical expenses. Everyday or preventive healthcare expenses, like allergy medications, birth control pills or nutritional consultations, are not covered. However, when faced with a snake bite, food poisoning, or a skiing mishap, you can rely on World Nomads plans to provide essential assistance during medical emergencies, including evacuation and transport for urgent hospitalization or emergency medical evacuation to Brazil for care.

Beyond offering hospital and physician referrals – and rest assured, we diligently vet our providers – our team ensures you receive negotiated rates and additional support services, such as notifying your family or even arranging food delivery to your hospital room.

What's not covered

Now, let's address what travel insurance for digital nomads doesn’t cover.

For baggage and personal belongings, the following exclusions apply:

  • When you leave your personal belongings behind in an unsupervised place.
  • Electronic malfunctions (you'll have to reach out to the manufacturer).
  • When you fail to file a loss or theft report with the local authorities or the representative of the venue where it took place, such as a common carrier, tour operator or other travel provider.
  • Items that you can’t prove you own (for example, you don’t have a record of their purchase).

For emergency medical and evacuation, coverage is not provided for:

  • Any medical bills related to a pre-existing condition.
  • A non-emergency treatment or surgery, such as routine physical examinations (this is not regular health insurance, but rather for medical emergencies).
  • Pregnancy and childbirth (except for complications of pregnancy).

This summary is not exhaustive, so please review your policy for a comprehensive list of terms, conditions, limitations, and exclusions applicable to your specific plan.

The scenarios mentioned above are illustrative and not a guarantee of coverage. All claims undergo review, require documentation, and are assessed individually. Should you have any queries about coverage, reach out  – we're here to assist you.

Tips for Digital Nomads

  • Find and scan your receipts before your leave
  • If an airline loses your gear, tell them straight away and get it in writing.
  • Theft? Report it to the police within 24 hours.
  • If you’ve got a handset or tablet that can be blocked, block it.
  • You can claim at home or on the road.

Bag snatched in Latvia.

It was my final day in Riga, Latvia. In my small bag I keep all my valuables, because hostels can't always be reliable with safekeeping. It contained my new GoPro, Iphone, digital camera, laptop and hard drive, plus my emergency money (200euros). I planned on using my cameras and computer for editing later that afternoon. The coast was amazing and, as it got late, I decided to take the train back to Riga city. As I was getting off the train, down the vertical steep steps, I had my bag snatched off my shoulder. In seconds, the doors closed and the train pulled off. Telling authorities on the platforms immediately, they could not assist and referred me straight to the police. Feeling helpless, I went to the police where I was kept for hours, because of English barriers and translations of documents. I walked out just after midnight with my report. A day trip I wont forget soon.
