8.0 magnitude earthquake strikes near the Solomon Islands – 6 February 2013

A magnitude 8.0 earthquake struck at a depth of 3.6mi (5.8km) off the Solomon Islands in the Pacific Ocean on 6 February 2013.

The earthquake triggered a potentially destructive tsunami, causing a tsunami warning to be issued for the South Pacific islands.
