The peak body for the global youth and student travel industry - WYSTC - has rewarded a decade long commitment to keeping travellers safe by awarding the 2019 Global Youth Travel Award for Best Travel Safety Initiative to World Nomads.

The award was one of 14 announced at the WYSTC final night gala dinner in Lisbon, Portugal on October 12th.
"We're absolutely thrilled to win this award." said World Nomads General Manager Chris Noble. "We've always believed that being informed and staying safe is an essential part of travel."
The GYTA Best Travel Safety Initiative Award looks to recognise organisations that proactively seek to keep their customers safe, whether it be through implementation of best practices, toolkits or risk management plans or the creation of preparatory educating tools (such as seminars, workshops or online platforms).
World Nomads has content detailing safety issues and how to avoid them for all 196 countries of the world.
"No other travel-related website has such an extensive library of tips, advice and warnings." said the vertical's founding editor Phil Sylvester. "I'm sure we've helped many travellers avoid falling victim to a scam by being forewarned."
The Travel safety section of the World Nomads website has over 1000 articles detailing scams, health issues, unusual laws and other warnings.
Users will also find regular travel safety alerts published when events occur. "We were quite busy letting our travellers in Japan for the Rugby World Cup know that typhoon Hagibis was on the way, and how that might impact them." Said current travel safety editor Amelia Brady.
The Global Youth Travel Awards are part of the World Youth and Student Travel Confederation (WYSTC) which met in Lisbon, Portugal in October 2019.
At the conference World Nomads launched its new buisness lounge as part of a major sponsorship deal.
