New ways to travel, covered: New Epic and Annual Multi-Trip plans expand options for both big trips and frequent flyers.

More control when plans change: More flexibility for today’s unpredictable travel, with optional Cancel For Any Reason coverage.

Shaped by customer feedback: Stronger protection with added benefits like rental car coverage, pet emergency care, and trip exchanges in select plans.

Confidence behind every trip: Now underwritten by Zurich, a long-standing global insurer known for strength, stability, and innovation.

CANADA — June 22, 2026 — With flight disruptions, rising travel costs and global uncertainty reshaping how Canadians plan their trips, travellers are increasingly looking for more flexibility and deeper travel protections. Record travel volumes—nearly 100 million trips in just one quarter—are also increasing travellers’ exposure to those unexpected disruptions. In response, World Nomads Canada has introduced expanded travel insurance products, with upgraded benefits, new plan options, and greater flexibility for today’s increasingly complex travel landscape.

“Travel today looks very different than it did even a few years ago,” said Christina Tunnah, Head of the Americas at World Nomads. “Canadian travellers are navigating more costly disruptions like airline bankruptcies, severe weather and global wars. They need coverage that goes further. These updates are designed to deliver deeper protection tailored to those realities, so travellers can feel confident no matter what their trip throws at them.”

With nearly two decades of experience serving Canadian travellers since 2008, World Nomads continues to evolve its offerings, informed by deep expertise, customer feedback, and changing travel needs. The refreshed product suite is designed to help Canadians navigate uncertainty with greater flexibility and benefits, whether planning a quick getaway or a once in a lifetime adventure.

In addition, World Nomads’ products for Canadian residents are now underwritten by Zurich, a globally recognised insurer known for its financial strength, reliability and long-standing expertise in delivering innovative insurance solutions. Backed by Zurich's more than 100 years of experience serving Canadians, this partnership further enhances the strength and dependability of coverage available to Canadian travellers.

At the heart of the launch are two new plan options designed to meet a wider range of travel styles:

Epic Single Trip Plan: A premium option with higher limits and more extensive coverage, ideal for bucket-list and once-in-a-lifetime trips.

Annual Multi-Trip (AMT) Plan: Provides coverage for multiple trips of up to 14 days each over 12 months, offering added value for frequent travellers.

World Nomads is also introducing enhanced flexibility through an optional Cancel For Any Reason (CFAR) add-on, available on Explorer and Epic plans, giving travellers more control when plans change unexpectedly.

New and upgraded benefits—now included across Explorer, Epic and AMT plans—further strengthen coverage:

Rental vehicle coverage (for accidents or theft in a rental car)

Pet emergency medical expenses and boarding fees (if you travel with your pet and unexpected injury or sickness occurs)

Travel inconvenience payments (if you are delayed on a tarmac or your ski resort is lacking snow, for example)

Trip exchange benefit (if your cruise/tour provider changes dates on you)

Benefit limits, coverage, and eligibility may vary, so travellers are encouraged to read their policy.

West Coast travelers are the most likely to splurge on trips, followed closely by travelers in the Mid-Atlantic region.

Millennials are leading the upgrade trend, prioritizing premium seats and VIP perks.

Gen Z travelers are prioritizing experiences over luxury, spending more on excursions and guided adventures than accommodations.

Oakland, California/U.S. - March 22nd, 2026

As Americans begin receiving their tax refunds, many are planning to turn that extra cash into summer travel. But with gas prices rising and travel costs climbing, some are reconsidering how far their budgets will stretch. A new Pulse Poll from World Nomads found that 35% of respondents say higher gas prices are already changing their travel plans.

Even so, travelers aren’t giving up on the trips they want. Instead, many are becoming strategic splurgers, carefully managing their budgets while still spending more on the experiences that matter most.

The findings highlight clear regional and generational trends shaping how travelers plan to spend money on vacations in 2026.

Key Findings

West Coast = Spend Coast
Travelers living on the West Coast are the most likely to splurge on travel this summer, followed closely by residents of the Mid-Atlantic region.

Men Are Less Likely to Stick to the Budget
While 75% of men say they plan a travel budget (compared to 63% of women), more than half admit they are still likely to splurge. Women, meanwhile, are more disciplined with spending, with just 44% saying they expect to indulge beyond their budget.

Millennials Want the Upgrade
Travelers ages 30–44 are the most likely to spend extra on upgrades overall, like premium hotel rooms to VIP travel perks. By comparison, travelers 60 and older are the least likely to upgrade their travel experience.

Gen X Picks Up the Dining Tab
Nearly 1 in 3 travelers ages 45–60 say they are most likely to splurge on dining while traveling. This generation is also the most likely to upgrade flights specifically compared with other age groups.

Gen Z Prioritizes Experiences Over Luxury
Younger travelers are focused on memorable activities rather than upscale accommodations. Gen Z travelers (18–29) are most likely to splurge on guided adventures, excursions, and cultural experiences, while only about 1 in 10 say they would splurge on accommodations.

Smart Budgeting Meets Strategic Spending

The findings suggest travelers are approaching vacations with a balanced mindset: saving carefully in some areas while investing in the experiences that matter most to them.

“Travelers today are increasingly thoughtful about how they spend on travel,” said Christina Tunnah, Head of the Americas at World Nomads. “Many are planning their budgets carefully, but they’re still willing to splurge on the parts of a trip that make it truly memorable, whether that’s upgrading a flight, booking a once-in-a-lifetime excursion, or enjoying incredible local food.”

About the Survey

The survey was conducted amongst 582 U.S. travelers (aged 18-69) to better understand travel spending habits, generational preferences, and budgeting behaviors heading into 2026.

Inspiration meets protection as trusted travel content is paired with global insurance expertise

Two iconic travel brands unite: Lonely Planet and World Nomads renew partnership

Partnership to provide clear guidance on why travel insurance matters in the trip planning stage

[Oakland, California March 9, 2026] — World Nomads, a global leader in travel insurance for adventurous travelers, and Lonely Planet, the world’s leading travel guidance brand have announced the renewal of their long-standing partnership, bringing together two iconic travel brands with a shared mission: helping travelers explore the world more confidently and responsibly.

The partnership aims to support travelers at a critical moment in the trip-planning journey — when inspiration turns into action — by helping them better understand the role travel insurance plays in protecting their adventures.

“Lonely Planet has long been one of the most trusted voices in travel, and we’re proud to be partnering with them again,” says Christina Tunnah, Head of Marketing and Brands for World Nomads. “Travel insurance isn’t just a checkbox; it’s an important part of planning a trip with confidence. By working together, we can help travelers better understand why coverage matters, and help them feel supported at every stage of their journey.”

The two brands are coming together again as travelers navigate an increasingly complex travel landscape with evolving entry requirements to health, safety, and natural disaster risks.

World Nomads and Lonely Planet first partnered in 2005, beginning a 15-year collaboration in which World Nomads served as Lonely Planet’s exclusive global travel insurance partner. The relationship also extended beyond insurance, with Lonely Planet supporting World Nomads’ Travel Scholarships and Footprints initiatives, reinforcing a shared commitment to responsible and sustainable travel.

“Lonely Planet has always been about helping travelers make informed decisions, and partnering again with World Nomads allows us to extend that guidance into an area that’s essential to modern travel planning — understanding how to protect your trip,” said Melissa Killian, Vice President of Partnerships for Lonely Planet.

World Nomads provides flexible travel insurance products to travelers from more than 100 countries, with protection that may cover everything from medical emergencies to adventure activities and unexpected disruptions. With a strong focus on education, storytelling, and responsible travel, the brand continues to support travelers before, during, and after their trips.

The partnership will focus on integrating travel insurance education into the trip-planning experience, helping travelers make more informed decisions as they prepare to explore the world.

World Nomads received Gold Award Badges in the following categories:

Best Travel Insurance Companies

Best Cancel for Any Reason Travel Insurance

Best Annual Travel Insurance

The U.S. News & World Report Best Travel Insurance Companies ratings evaluate providers based on factors that matter most to travelers, including coverage options, consumer satisfaction, financial strength, and expert analysis.

“These awards are especially meaningful because they validate the work we’ve done to listen to travelers and respond to what they told us they looked for in their travel insurance,” said Christina Tunnah, Head of the Americas for World Nomads. “We introduced our Optional Cancel for Any Reason benefit and Annual Plan in late 2024 to give travelers more flexibility and peace of mind, and this recognition from U.S. News & World Report affirms that those benefits were not only needed in the market, but delivered in a way that truly resonated. It’s gratifying to see that effort reflected in these awards.”

Since their introduction, World Nomads’ Optional Cancel for Any Reason benefit and Annual Plan have quickly become two of the company’s most engaged product offerings, ranking among the most visited and researched pages on the World Nomads website. Both products have also seen strong uptake in the US, reflecting sustained demand from travelers seeking greater flexibility and streamlined coverage. The recognition from U.S. News & World Report reinforces this alignment between customer need and product design, underscoring how these offerings respond to evolving travel behaviors and expectations.

For the 2026 ratings, U.S. News travel editors evaluated 45 travel insurance providers and their policies, analyzing data from multiple sources, including professional ratings and reviews, consumer feedback, and financial strength assessments from A.M. Best, a global credit rating agency. Methodologies vary by product category and are published by U.S. News on each ratings page.

Nearly one in four travelers who went on a date with someone they met while traveling say they’re still with that person today, and chance encounters at airports and on planes have high staying power, compared with meetings at bars, hotels, or on guided tours.

Where travel romances start: In-person still leads.

21% say local bars and restaurants are the most common meeting spot for a travel romance;

17% say dating apps;

16% say tours/excursions;

13% say airports and planes.

What relationships last beyond the trip?

48% say if they met at an airport, they’re still with that person today;

36% say planes;

13% say bars;

11% say hotels/hostels.

Who says yes to a spontaneous travel date? Regional and demographic differences are striking. The Pacific region tops the list (42% say they’ve gone on a spontaneous travel date), and travelers aged 35–44 are the most open (43%). Men report saying yes far more often than women (42.5% vs 26%). Solo international travelers are 3.5× more likely to go on a spontaneous travel date than those traveling in a group (53% vs 15%).

“Travel has a way of dissolving routines and opening people up to new connections, sometimes before you even reach your destination. When people step out of their daily lives, they tend to be more present and more willing to engage with the world around them,” said Christina Tunnah, Head of the Americas for World Nomads. “Our data shows that airport and in-transit meet-cutes aren’t just cinematic; they’re among the most likely to turn into lasting relationships. There’s something about shared anticipation, unexpected delays, and the simple act of going somewhere new that creates space for meaningful connections to form.”

By the numbers

Pacific travelers lead: 42% have gone on a date with someone they just met while traveling

Ages 35–44 are most open: 43% say they’d go on a spontaneous travel date compared to 34% of travelers aged 25–34; 19% of travelers aged 18–24; 20% of travelers aged 55–69

Men vs. women: 42.5% of men vs 26% of women report a travel date.

Solo boosts serendipity: 53% of Solo international travelers have been on an on-trip date vs non-solo 15%

Frequent travelers are more likely to say yes to on-trip dates: 54% of people who take 6+ trips a year say they’ve been on an on-trip date; 45% for 5 trips/year; 36% for 4 trips/year; 35% for 3 trips/year; 19% for 2 trips/year; 14% for 1 trip/year.

Staying power by meet-place: Airport 48%; Plane 36%; Dating apps 24%; Hotel/Hostel 13%; Bar/Restaurant 11%.

Methodology note: Findings are drawn from World Nomads’ October 2025 survey with 522 respondents, aged 18-69. Regional figures use weights to correct for uneven sample sizes; age and gender comparisons use unweighted rates. Percentages shown are approximate, rounded to whole numbers.

The awards recognize outstanding achievement across the travel industry and mark a milestone for World Nomads in the U.S. market.

"Each year, I think, 'This will be the year to remember' -- the year that creativity, innovation and inspiration in the entries of the Travel Weekly Magellan Awards has peaked,” said Arnie Weissmann, editor-in-chief of Travel Weekly. “Yet this year – the 18th annual Travel Weekly Magellan Awards – has topped all that has come before."

World Nomads won the first Gold Award for ‘Travel Insurance - Overall Product’ after refreshing its U.S. plans in October 2024 (https://www.worldnomads.com/in-the-news/media-releases/new-travel-protection-plans-announced), offering enhanced benefits and new adaptable coverages. The award acknowledges the brand’s leadership in travel insurance innovation and customer-focused support.

“Our updated U.S. plans were designed to better support travelers with flexible options and greater benefits,” said Christina Tunnah, Head of the Americas for World Nomads. “Being recognized with a Magellan Gold Award reinforces that we’re on the right path, and that our focus on our travelers is resonating.”

The second Gold Award honored the End-of-Year Integrated Global Marketing Campaign, ‘Don’t Just Visit. Live It.’ (see YouTube ad here and also below) The 2024/25 sales campaign set a bold tone for immersive travel, emphasizing deeply experiencing destinations rather than just simply visiting them. The messaging blended in the core concept of purchasing travel insurance to protect these worldwide adventures. In some regions, a discount code was also offered. The award recognized the campaign’s creativity, cross-channel execution and alignment with the modern traveler mindset.

“This campaign was a celebration of meaningful, transformational travel which educated prospective customers about the importance of travel insurance,” Tunnah added. “We’re honored the judges saw the heart behind our message and the creativity behind its execution.”

The Magellan Awards are judged and overseen by a one-of-a-kind panel of top travel professionals representing the best names and most accomplished leaders from the industry.

What This Means for Travelers

Winning both major awards reinforces World Nomads’ commitment to:

Searches for the term ‘solo holiday’ have been at an all-time high, with an average of 12.1k searches per month

Data reveals the best destinations for solo travellers in 2025, with Thailand, United States and Australia topping the list

Jonathan Frankham, travel expert at World Nomads, shares his top tips on how to stay safe whilst travelling alone

London (February 26, 2025) - Searches for the term ‘solo holiday’ have been at an all-time high over the past year, with the term seeing an average of 12.1k1 searches each month.

New data from global travel insurance experts, World Nomads, indicates that the solo travel market will continue to grow in 2025, with solo travel policies accounting for 85%2 of all UK policy sales since 2022, making solo travel the fastest growing segment. ABTA also reported a year-on-year rise in solo travellers in 2024.

Staying safe on your trip

Jonathan Frankham, General Manager at World Nomads UK & EU, shares his advice on how to plan and prepare for a solo travel trip in 2025.

Travelling alone can be extremely fulfilling and rewarding, but ensuring you stay safe throughout your trip must be a top priority. There are a number of steps you can take to look after yourself before and during your holiday:

Make sure you have properly researched your destination and the local area, including any local customs or laws and cultural traditions. Also take into consideration traveller reviews on sites such as TripAdvisor, Instagram or TikTok for a real-life viewpoint. You could also check the government website for the most up-to-date safety information about the destination.

Buy travel insurance from the day you book your trip. Travel insurance can be a safety net in case anything goes wrong, before or during your trip. For example, it can provide support should your trip be delayed or cancelled, reimburse you for stolen items (up to the benefit limits), or allow you to get sufficient care should you get sick or injured during your holiday, through services such as Air Doctor, which is available to World Nomads policyholders3 in the UK and specific EU countries.

Whilst going ‘off-grid’ and staying away from social media can be really beneficial from a wellbeing perspective, it’s important to stay connected with at least a few friends or family members at home. If needed, consider purchasing a global eSIM so you can regularly check in and share your travel agenda.

Always look at the reviews and ratings of hotels and accommodation providers. Wherever you stay, your accommodation should have a secure lock, and ideally a safe for valuable possessions and 24/7 front desk security (where applicable).

Rather than carrying cash around, a credit card is a much safer alternative and offers fraud protection. You can also get a replacement card in case your card is lost or stolen.

Socialise, but don’t overshare. Travel provides a great opportunity to connect with others, but try to refrain from sharing personal details or information about your itinerary and never hand over your passport, particularly if pressured.

No matter where you go, take extra care to stay aware of your surroundings. Avoid displaying any expensive items and make sure you carry items in a zipped bag. Always use official taxi services or public transport when travelling around your destination.

The best destinations for solo travellers

Some destinations are increasing in popularity amongst solo travellers, making them a great choice for others looking to take their first independent adventure and meet like-minded people.

World Nomads has revealed the top 104 best destinations for solo travellers, based on the below being the most popular with other solo travellers since 2022:

Thailand

United States

Australia

France

Spain

Italy

Vietnam

Indonesia

Cambodia

Germany

Activities for solo travellers

One of the best things about travelling alone is that it allows you to try new experiences and learn new skills. Jonathan shares his thoughts on some of the best activities for solo travellers, including:

Try a cooking class: Learning how to make local dishes is a great way to immerse yourself in the local culture and meet new people in a relaxed and friendly environment. This hands-on activity will encourage you to try new ingredients and learn new culinary techniques.

Join a hiking or walking tour: Guided tours are a fantastic way to learn about the history of a destination. As you’ll often have a local tour guide, it provides an opportunity to ask plenty of questions and learn about local customs and traditions. Walking tours are also a great place to meet fellow travellers.

Book a yoga or meditation experience: Trying a yoga or meditation experience at the beginning of your trip will really help you to relax and appreciate your surroundings. For those who live busy lives, this kind of relaxation experience can help to quieten your mind and enjoy a moment of reflection in a new environment.

Visit a local market: Local markets provide a great opportunity to support the economy of your destination whilst learning about the culture. Spend some time tasting authentic local food, appreciating handcrafted goods and taking in the atmosphere.

Contribute through volunteering programmes: There is no better way to give back to the local community than through signing up to a volunteer programme. There are usually plenty of opportunities to get involved in local workshops or programmes where you’ll learn new skills, meet new people, connect to your destination and experience the culture with a new perspective and sense of fulfillment.

Make sure you have the right travel insurance

When buying travel insurance, it is extremely important to check the policy wording and purchase the correct and most appropriate coverage for your destination and the activities you are planning to do.

Jonathan advises: "Travelling solo is a liberating experience. It offers the chance to do what and go where you want, on your own terms. It also makes you more likely to branch out, forge deeper connections with others and even discover more about oneself.

“To ensure that solo travellers can make the most out of their experience, we’d always advise to strike a balance between wanderlust and being prepared. Each destination brings a wealth of opportunity, but staying safe is key.

“Our main advice would be to exercise common sense and vigilance throughout your trip. It’s important to plan routes, book accommodations and excursions in advance, and familiarise yourself with local etiquette. Taking out a comprehensive insurance policy can also act as an important safety net when travelling alone.

“By staying prepared, respectful, and vigilant, you can make the most of your solo adventure while prioritising your safety."

As Greece is one of Europe’s most earthquake-prone countries, many residents will know the next steps but tourists may be less knowledgeable about what to do during these unpredictable natural events.

Global travel insurance experts, World Nomads, have shared their essential safety advice on what to do before, during and after an earthquake hits should you find yourself in an impacted area.

Preparing for an earthquake

Although there’s no way to predict exactly when and where an earthquake is going to happen, there are steps you can take to prepare yourself if visiting earthquake-prone destinations.

If travelling to an area prone to earthquakes, have an emergency kit with the following items on your person:

Mobile phone

Food

Water

Water purification tablets

Money

First-aid kit

Fully charged power bank

Key documents like passports and travel insurance policies

Other key steps to take in order to prepare are:

Ensure that you have the phone numbers of important contacts saved in your phone, but also have a written copy with you in case your phone gets lost or runs out of battery - key numbers include an emergency contact at home and the embassy. Phone numbers of local friends, the airline, tour company and travel insurance company are also useful ones to consider

At your accommodation, identify the nearest evacuation point that’s an open area away from overhanging trees, power lines and bridges

Should you be in your room when an earthquake hits, make sure you’ve identified safe places there, such as underneath sturdy furniture or a space against an internal wall away from windows or heavy furniture

If staying in a coastal area, consider the risks of secondary dangers such as tsunamis and head for higher ground, or in hilly areas that could be affected by landslides, find flat and open ground

Do research ahead of time on whether an area has any earthquake warnings to ensure that your travel insurance policy will cover you - if you buy a policy after an earthquake, any expenses you accrue won’t be covered.

Staying safe during an earthquake

If you find yourself in the midst of an earthquake, take the following steps:

If outside or near an exit: Move to an open space away from buildings, trees, powerlines, and bridges. Get on the ground and cover your head.

If inside and not near an exit: Stay inside, find a safe spot away from falling objects, crouch, and cover your head. Unless in an old adobe or wood house, seek shelter under strong furniture or against an internal wall.

Avoid running outside: Many injuries happen from falls while trying to escape.

Avoid bathtubs and "triangle of life" spaces: The main danger is falling objects - hide under a sturdy table or bed for protection.

If in bed: Stay put and cover your head with a pillow.

If in a wheelchair: Move away from falling hazards, lock the wheels, and cover your head with your arms.

What to do after an earthquake

When safe to do so, head straight to your evacuation points, making sure you have your emergency kit with you.

If you can, reach out to the embassy and let your emergency contact know that you’re safe so they can relay this to your other friends and family whilst you save your phone battery. Social media also offers a number of check-in options so that you can mark yourself safe amidst a natural disaster.

Should you find yourself trapped, try not to move in order to preserve your energy and to avoid circulating dust. Only call for help if you hear people nearby and try to conserve your food and water supplies.

Jonathan Frankham, General Manager for World Nomads, UK & EU, says, "With Greece experiencing an average of 23 earthquakes per year, it’s a destination where travellers should be prepared for unexpected disruptions. The recent tremors in Santorini serve as a stark reminder of the region’s seismic activity.

“At World Nomads, we understand the challenges travellers face in natural disasters, which is why our Explorer Plan provides cover for trip disruptions, substitute accommodation, and emergency medical assistance in the event of a natural catastrophe, including earthquakes.

“Being informed, having an emergency plan, and ensuring you have the right level of travel insurance can make all the difference when navigating such events abroad. It's important to note that coverage is only available if the policy was purchased before the natural catastrophe became a known event. Additionally, travellers are expected to follow the advice of local authorities and take reasonable measures to minimize their expenses.”

World Nomads offer cover for natural catastrophes such as earthquakes with their Explorer Plan. Whilst most demonstrations in South Korea are typically peaceful and well-managed, the current climate may increase risks for travellers.

Global travel insurance experts, World Nomads, have provided practical, actionable advice for navigating these situations safely.

1. Stay Informed and Plan Ahead

Make sure that you’re familiar with the latest news about the political situation in South Korea. Key areas to currently monitor include:

Gwanghwamun and the Constitutional Court (Anguk)

Seoul Western District Court (Gongdeok)

National Assembly (Yeouido)

Make sure you install the South Korean Emergency Ready App, which provides real-time updates on civil emergencies, including protests and drills.

It’s also good to be prepared for drills or emergency scenarios; South Korea conducts civil emergency drills throughout the year. These involve sirens, halting traffic, and directing people to safety zones. Participation isn’t mandatory but always follow instructions from officials.

2. Avoid Protest Zones

Avoid large public gatherings, especially near the hotspots mentioned above. Protests can escalate quickly, even if they begin peacefully. Follow these guidelines:

Steer clear of demonstrations: If you hear of a protest, avoid the area entirely.

Don’t participate: It’s illegal for foreign nationals to participate in political activities in South Korea.

Follow local advice: Listen to local authorities or hotel management for updates.

3. Practice Safety During Unrest

If you inadvertently find yourself near or in a protest, follow these steps:

Stay on the edges of the crowd where it is safer.

Avoid confrontations and stay calm—do not run or appear hostile.

If violence erupts, seek shelter in a nearby building or safe area.

If you find yourself in a crowd crush, create a space for yourself by grasping your wrists and bracing your elbows away from your sides; bend over slightly – this should allow you breathing room.

Stay away from police or security force actions.

4. Secure Your Accommodation

During periods of unrest, remain in your hotel or other accommodations:

Avoid windows: Stay away from windows and draw curtains to protect against potential glass shattering.

Move to an inner room: If protests or gunfire are nearby, an inside room offers better protection.

Stay in touch with your embassy and follow their guidance.

5. Keep Insurance and Emergency Contacts Handy

Travel insurance is essential, particularly during volatile times. Ensure your policy covers civil unrest. Have your embassy’s contact information on hand and inform family or friends of your whereabouts.

South Korea remains a welcoming and fascinating destination for travellers, but heightened tensions call for extra vigilance. By staying informed and prepared, you can enjoy your trip while prioritising your safety.

Jono Frankham, World Nomads General Manager for the UK market commented:

"Encouragingly, we’re seeing demand for travel to South Korea approach pre-COVID levels, with quotes increasing as a proportion of the broader Asia market and our total book. Notably, January 2025 is on track to be the strongest start to the year since 2020 in terms of policy sales, signaling that travelers aren’t just considering a trip to South Korea - they’re actively making plans and taking steps to protect them.

“At World Nomads, we continuously monitor claims data to ensure we provide accurate and timely advice to our travellers. We can reassure visitors to South Korea that despite recent political turbulence, our claims data indicates no surge in incidents directly related to the unrest. The number of claims originating from South Korea over the past six months by World Nomads customers is in single figures, underlining its reputation as a safe and reliable travel destination.

“South Korea remains an enriching destination for those who adhere to local guidance and exercise common travel precautions. As always, we encourage travellers to stay informed, respect local advisories, and secure a suitable travel insurance policy fit for their planned activities."

Before you buy a travel insurance policy, check your government travel warnings and health advice – there may be no travel insurance cover for locations with a government travel ban or health advice against travel.

Footprints has raised nearly $2.5 million from World Nomads travelers in the 20 years since inception, funding more than 270 community development projects worldwide

Program showcases the collective power of travelers and their desire to give back to the places they visit

The most recent project launched in January 2025 aids children in Ukraine and the next project to launch will help end forced marriages for girls in India

Los Angeles, CA – Jan. 29, 2024 - World Nomads, a leading name in travel insurance and global community impact, proudly marks the 20th anniversary of its groundbreaking Footprints program. Since its launch, nearly 1.4 million generous travelers have united to make micro-donations ranging from $1 to $10, collectively raising nearly $2.5 million USD. These funds have supported more than 270 community development projects in 47 countries, benefiting roughly 3 million people. The Footprints program highlights the collective power of travelers and their commitment to giving back to the communities they visit.

The program was launched in 2005 out of a desire to assist communities devasted by the tsunami that killed over a quarter of a million people in Asia. World Nomads co-founder Simon Monk, and his team, envisioned a platform where travelers could make small, impactful donations to causes aligned with their values. The response was extraordinary, and the program evolved into a lasting commitment to global betterment. By partnering with nonprofit organizations aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, Footprints channels 100% of donations directly to projects that combat poverty, protect the planet, and help communities.

“The Footprints program has exceeded our wildest expectations,” said Christina Tunnah, General Manager of Marketing and Brands at World Nomads. “It began as a rapid response to a single tragedy in a place many of us at World Nomads have visited. It has bloomed into a testament to the collective goodwill of travelers, sharing a commitment to a more equitable and sustainable world. We’re thrilled to celebrate two decades of impact. We are looking to the next era of scaling our efforts to support more communities worldwide and create lasting change, one journey at a time.”

The Footprints program is currently supporting several active projects, including its latest initiative in partnership with Save the Children Ukraine, aimed at providing relief for children affected by the war in Ukraine. The next project will be focused on supporting The Hunger Project’s efforts as they work to build self-reliance and end forced marriages in India. In 2025, Footprints will also launch its first Canadian project in partnership with the Adventure Travel Conservation Fund.

Over the past 20 years, the Footprints program has supported countless projects ranging from disaster relief in Gaza and Ukraine to animal welfare, education, sustainable development and more. The past two decades have seen an expansion from projects primarily focused on poverty to a growing number of issues, like gender equality and climate resilience.

World Nomads introduces a fresh, modern take on travel with curated guides crafted by destination experts, starting with Thailand and later expanding to Japan and France.

Itineraries serve as a modern and easy-to-follow guide for adventurers looking to explore hidden gems across well-known countries

Curated by local travel writers, the new digital itineraries offer an inside look at the best ways to get around, things to do and distinctive places to see across three of 2025’s hottest destinations

Los Angeles, CA – Jan. 10, 2024 - World Nomads, a leading name in travel insurance and adventure storytelling, has launched a series of curated, snackable travel itineraries designed to spark wanderlust and exploration. The debut guide in this three-part digital series shines a spotlight on Thailand, offering a fresh take on travel with immersive, off-the-beaten-path experiences in both vibrant city centers and lesser-known towns. This innovative approach reimagines World Nomads' cherished travel guides, catering to modern adventurers seeking authentic, local experiences. Each itinerary is crafted by seasoned travel experts—Mark Eveleigh, Selena Hoy, and Tamara Thiessen — who bring unparalleled destination knowledge as locals or long-time residents of these vibrant countries.

Thailand was a natural choice to kick off this series, with the country set to be a hot spot in 2025. From hosting the highly anticipated next season of MAX’s hit series The White Lotus in February to earning the title of “2025’s Destination of the Year” by Travel + Leisure, Thailand is most definitely in the spotlight. The itinerary invites globetrotters to experience everything from serene houseboat stays in Kanchanaburi to the vibrant street food scene in bustling Bangkok bazaars. With Japan and France to follow, World Nomads’ new generation of travel guides promise to inspire adventurers to explore the world like never before.

“While we are first and foremost in the business of protecting our nomads as they travel, we have always been a brand seeking to inform and inspire with creative travel content, whether it be the “Travel Wiser” section of our site or the travel guidebooks we offered prior to the pandemic,” said Christina Tunnah, General Manager of Marketing and Brands, World Nomads. “This new iteration of itineraries allows us to continue helping our nomads plan their bucket list adventures near and far, all the while knowing they can do so with the peace of mind that their once-in-a-lifetime trip is protected.”

The countries featured in the guides are among some of the top destinations that World Nomads’ global audience of globetrotters and adventurers are booking. The itineraries offer travelers an opportunity to slow down, immerse in local cultures, and travel more sustainability by getting off the traditional path. Additionally, all three destinations are expected to have their moment in the sun in 2025 stemming from continued post-pandemic interest in Asia, an increase in popularity of the set-jetting trend and watching France during the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Japan and France itineraries will be available on the World Nomads website beginning in early 2025.

UK travellers can expect savings on Annual Multi-Trip policies of up to 29% depending on the regions and age group selected.

One of the biggest drops can be enjoyed by those aged 26-35 on a Standard Worldwide Annual Multi-Trip policy (including USA), which is dropping by 27%, saving travellers £70.77 on a policy now priced at £189.

Jonathan Frankham, General Manager UK and Europe said:

“Travel insurance is a money-smart move that provides financial protection and peace of mind for when you fall ill, have an accident, lose baggage or belongings while on a trip, costs can spiral quickly, even in Europe, where travellers frequently can get access to state-provided care. For example treatment for a broken leg in Spain can cost £15,000, while a hospital stay in the USA and medical repatriation could cost as much as £100,000.

“For frequent travellers, Annual Multi-Trip insurance policies with World Nomads provides cover for an unlimited number of trips over a 12-month period, which provides you with one less thing to think about each time and can be more cost effective compared to a Single Trip policy. It’s a no-brainer.”

According to World Nomads’ own research, just under a quarter of British travellers choose an Annual Multi-Trip policy for convenience and cost savings.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ON ANNUAL MULTI-TRIP POLICIES

Whether you’re a frequent flyer or someone planning one big far-flung trip, the choice between an Annual Multi-Trip and a Single Trip policy can have a significant impact on your cover, as well as your bottom line. World Nomads has put together some frequently asked questions on which would work best for you.

Frequently Asked Questions on Annual Multi-Trip Insurance?

What is it?

Annual Multi-Trip travel insurance is designed for British globetrotters who embark on multiple journeys within a year. With this type of policy, you’re covered for an unlimited number of trips within a specified region during the policy period. It's a cost-effective and convenient option for those who travel frequently.

What are the benefits and considerations of Annual Multi-Trip?

Cost-effective and Convenient: Instead of purchasing a separate policy for each trip, you pay once for year-round coverage and it saves arranging travel insurance on every trip.

Kids go free: World Nomads Annual Multi-Trip policies offer free coverage for children under the age of 18 travelling with an adult, making year-round family travel more affordable.

Domestic travel: The Annual Multi-Trip policy offers cover for both international and domestic travel (subject to some restrictions – check your policy wording for more information).

Is there trip duration limits? Each trip is capped at a certain number of days (31 days with the Standard plan, 45 days with the Explorer plan).

How Much Does an Annual Multi-Trip policy cost? While cost-effective in the long run, the upfront payment may be higher than a Single Trip policy.

Does a policy auto renew? Annual Multi-Trip policies do not auto-renew. Consumers need to purchase a new policy each year, but World Nomads will write to consumers 28 days before expiry so you can get another quote. On the other hand, Single Trip policies expire after each journey, requiring a new purchase for any subsequent trips.

What is Single Trip travel insurance?

As the name suggests, Single Trip insurance provides coverage for a single journey. It's ideal for travellers embarking on one-off vacations or business trips outside their home country.

What are the benefits and considerations of Single Trip?

Flexibility: Tailored coverage for a specific trip, allowing you to customize your policy based on the destination, duration and planned activities.

Less restrictions on trip duration: Enjoy the freedom to choose the length of your trip without worrying about exceeding coverage limits. Single Trip policies have a 365-day limit, but if you wish to continue your trip you can simply purchase a new policy.

Simplicity: (depending on your travel plans of course). You only need to focus on the details of one trip at a time.

Less commitment: If you’re an occasional traveller rather than a frequent flyer a Single Trip policy offers cover when you need it, without the commitment or expense of an Annual Multi-Trip policy.

Do Single Trip policies have higher costs? While cheaper for a Single Trip, multiple Single Trip policies can add up to more than an Annual Multi-Trip policy over time.

Need for repeated purchases: You'll need to buy a new policy for each trip.

No cover for domestic travel: Single Trip policies do not have cover when travelling within the UK.

Other factors to consider when choosing a travel insurance policy:

Cover type: Annual Multi-Trip and Single Trip policies share some similarities, including benefits like trip cancellation, emergency medical expenses, and personal baggage cover. However, the limits and exclusions may vary between Standard and Explorer plans, so it’s essential to review the policy details carefully.

Trip duration: With Annual Multi-Trip insurance, each trip is typically limited to a specific number of days. Ensure the maximum trip duration aligns with your travel plans to avoid gaps in coverage. Single Trip policies offer more flexibility in trip duration.

Travel companions: With an Annual Multi-Trip policy your children (aged under 18), if named on the policy, will also be covered (for free) when travelling with another adult for the full duration (365 days). A Single Trip policy will also include free cover for your children. However, cover ends when the Single Trip policy expires.

More than a quarter of Brits don’t know what to do if they get sick aboard

60% are worried about falling sick overseas

Over a third of Brits have experienced a medical situation whilst travelling

Nearly half (48%) of Brits are worried about the cost of treatment abroad

World Nomads has launched a new Air Doctor service offering relief in case of receiving medical assistance while abroad

London: October, 2024 – As the first case of Mpox has been detected in the UK, World Nomads’ Travel Anxiety Report 2024* has revealed more than a quarter (26%) of British holidaymakers don’t know what they would do if they needed medical attention abroad, despite three in five (60%) believing they could fall sick whilst travelling.

Over a third (38%) of Brits have experienced a medical situation whilst abroad, including more than two-thirds of 18-24-year-olds (67%), though more than half of them (54%) do not take out travel insurance policies when travelling abroad.

For those who do take out travel insurance, medical emergencies are the main reason for taking out insurance. Nearly half (48%) of travelling Brits, who filled out the World Nomads’ survey, are most concerned about the cost of treatment abroad, underscoring the financial risks of medical emergencies, while nearly three in five (58%) Brits prioritise coverage for medical emergencies or evacuations.

In the past three months, average World Nomads claims in the UK and EU for injuries were £1304.77, whilst treatment for illness were £752.92.

One in three (32%) holidaymakers worry about access to quality healthcare, reflecting concerns about the adequacy of medical facilities abroad. Nearly a third (31%) are concerned about being able to return home after a medical emergency, highlighting the importance of repatriation coverage.

As a response to these findings, World Nomads has introduced World Nomads Powered by Air Doctor. The service, which is available to all travel insurance policy holders, connects travellers to private doctors and medical advice in destinations where public health services may be overstretched and/or unable to treat international travellers. The feature is available for World Nomads on all Standard and Explorer plans on both Single Trip and Annual Multi-Trip policies and is suitable for non-emergency medical assistance.

Jonathan Frankham, General Manager UK and Europe at World Nomads, says:

“We know Brits treasure their holidays, and our Travel Anxiety Report highlights that getting ill on holiday is a significant stress – especially as we head towards winter and the Christmas holidays. Air Doctor is a welcome addition as it’s cashless and claimless and breaks down language barriers.

“The feature is designed to reduce the stress and burden of navigating a foreign health care system where it isn’t necessary, and it provides another seamless experience for our customers.

“Moreover, it also reduces out-of-pocket costs for customers because it removes need to attend A&E services for non-urgent medical issues, along with automated payouts, meaning that there’s no need to pay out and claim later. For those customers who require assistance with more urgent medical issues, we advise you to contact our 24/7 Emergency Medical Assistance team.”

World Nomads customers can access Air Doctor via the app or website, where they will be able to:

Search for a doctor in their destination city.

Choose between in-person or telemedicine consultations.

Book an appointment directly through the platform in a language of your choosing.

With Air Doctor, all your visits are cashless. Simply attend your appointment, get help, and get on with your travels.

Worryingly, 28% of UK travellers only sometimes purchase travel insurance, with 5% never doing so—even though 40% of Brits admit to having experienced medical issues while travelling abroad.

A quarter of respondents (25%) without insurance indicated they would pay out-of-pocket for treatment at a local doctor or hospital while another 17% would hope to avoid costs completely.

Alternative ways respondents cited for covering costs include relying on their Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC) to help cover expenses (19%), turning to friends and family for financial support (13%), or seeking help through online crowdfunding (5%).

A further 19% of respondents stated they would wait until returning home to receive medical care, a decision that could pose significant health risks.

Jonathan Frankham, General Manager UK and Europe at World Nomads, says:

“With over 1 in 4 don’t know how they would handle a medical emergency abroad without insurance, and many choosing to forgo insurance regularly, it is clear there is a significant gap in preparedness among British travellers.

“The reliance on out-of-pocket expenses, limited coverage options like the GHIC, or simply hoping for the best or relying on others can lead to risky financial and health consequences for all parties involved. What’s more, these approaches often fail to cover the full scope of costs, such as repatriation or additional family expenses, which can quickly add up to thousands of pounds.

“We advise travellers to take out travel insurance before their journey. At World Nomads, our policies cover a wide range of unforeseen medical expenses, including hospitalisation, emergency treatment, and even repatriation if necessary. For frequent travellers, an annual policy is a smart option - providing protection across multiple trips in the face of ongoing health crises”.

World Nomads launched an annual multi-trip policy in June 2024.
Blending innovation with trusted reliability, World Nomads is pushing the boundaries of travel insurance benefits with its four new or upgraded plans.

All plans can cover more than 250 activities, offer increased benefit maximums and are packed with non-insurance service perks (like advanced airline bag retrieval), designed to meet the needs of modern travelers

Higher tier plans also offer additional benefits such as optional ‘Cancel for Any Reason’ coverage, a pre-existing condition exclusion waiver and payments for annoying ‘travel inconveniences’ that could derail your trip. Travelers must purchase the plan within a time sensitive period in order to be eligible for the pre-existing medical exclusion waiver. Optional benefit purchases can also be subject to a time sensitive period.

Los Angeles, CA - October 28, 2024 - Global insurance provider World Nomads has expanded its offerings to introduce two new travel protection plans for U.S. residents - the Epic Plan and the Annual Plan. It has also enhanced existing insurance benefits for its popular Standard and Explorer plans, giving travelers added flexibility and robust benefits across all four plans. In addition, several new non-insurance services focused on retrieving lost airline bags and helping travelers access pre-trip vaccinations and prescriptions are included in every plan. Honing its expertise in travel over the past 20 years, World Nomads has expanded to offer these new plans and benefits to match the challenges of travel and continue to build upon what travelers are looking for – ease, flexibility and protection.

Perfect for luxury adventure travelers, bucket list trips and once-in-a-lifetime experiences, the new Epic Plan offers World Nomads’ highest level of protection yet. It offers coverage for epic adventures and includes higher benefits maximums such as up to $15,000 for trip cancellation if you cancel your trip for a covered reason, up to $250,000 for emergency medical expenses, and up to $3,000 for baggage coverage. The new insurance benefits also cover niche travel headaches, such as additional pet boarding costs if you have a covered trip delay as you head home. In some cases, travelers can even receive up to a $250 payment for being stuck on the tarmac for more than two consecutive hours as part of a new ‘travel inconvenience’ benefit. This plan offers the widest range of coverage for adventure activities, including spelunking, camping, cliff diving, free soloing and more, in addition to the over 250 activities included in all World Nomads plans.

For the globetrotter, the new Annual Plan allows travelers to have coverage for unlimited trips during the year, with a maximum individual trip length of 45 days. This gives travelers the flexibility to be covered for multiple domestic or international weekend getaways or extended month-long trips, if travelling 100 miles away from home, all without the hassle of signing up for a new plan each time.

World Nomads has also introduced optional Cancel For Any Reason (CFAR) as an add-on to the Explorer Plan and Epic Plans. This coverage offers cancellation protection, providing travelers with greater flexibility and allowing them to recover 50 - 75% of their trip costs if plans change, depending on the plan chosen. Travelers are encouraged to understand the terms of this benefit by reading the plan documents. The maximum benefit amount is up to the lessor of the trip cost paid or the amount listed on the confirmation of coverage; it is not available in New York.

“After 20 years of supporting adventure travelers, a thorough market analysis revealed that customers across all types of trips desire the same ease and flexibility as our core adventure-seeking audience,” said Christina Tunnah, General Manager of Global Marketing & Brands at World Nomads. “Now with four plans that cater to a variety of different types of travelers and budgets, combined with other non-insurance services to help alleviate the stressors of travel, we offer our US customers more protections and benefits than ever before, allowing them to focus on what they love - exploring the world.”

As part of the product revamp, the Explorer plan has been enhanced with new benefits, which are also available to customers opting for the new Epic plan. These perks include trip exchange coverage, offering flexibility to change travel dates instead of canceling, and coverage for missed connections. Some of the World Nomads plans also include several new unforeseen reasons that allow travelers additional coverage for trip cancellation, interruption and delay. Some of these new covered unforeseen reasons can include the mechanical breakdown for a specified number of hours of a common carrier (including airlines), interrupting your trip due to sickness or loss of a pet, and unforeseen ski/slope closure due to a lack of snow (or too much snow), to name a few. Moreover, the Standard and Explorer plans will also see higher maximum benefit amounts for many benefits, including emergency medical expenses, medical evacuation in certain circumstances, trip delay, and more.

World Nomads has also enhanced its non-insurance services, which already include Generali Global Assistance and FootprintID®, to introduce Blue Ribbon Bags and Runway Health in all of their plans. Blue Ribbon Bags tackles the common issue of lost or delayed luggage by offering a system that tracks and expedites the return of delayed airline baggage. The second new service, Runway Heath, is a telehealth company that is focused exclusively on travel health. Travelers can connect virtually with a physician to access prescription medications and vaccines for their upcoming trip – in some cases delivered straight to their door.

Despite this, many still travel without adequate insurance.

London, UK - September 1, 2024 – With increasing reports of global health threats, World Nomads’ Travel Anxiety Report 2024 has found that nearly half of Brits (48%) are most concerned about experiencing a medical emergency or illness while travelling.

Sadly, only 40% of Brits can confidently say they will not fall ill abroad, with this anxiety particularly pronounced among older travellers, with 58% of those aged 55 and over citing it as a top worry.

Recent global health threats, including the resurgence of COVID-19, the declaration of the 2024 Monkeypox outbreak as a "public health emergency of international concern" by the World Health Organisation, and the emergence of the Oropouche virus in South America, have intensified these concerns.

Worryingly, despite these risks and concerns, 28% of UK travellers still don’t always buy travel insurance, while a concerning 5.13% never purchase it at all. This highlights a significant gap in preparation that could leave many vulnerable in the face of unexpected health crises.

Jonathan Frankham, General Manager UK and Europe at World Nomads, says:

“It's clear that health concerns are a top priority for British travellers, with almost half worried about falling ill abroad. This anxiety reflects the broader global environment where health risks are more varied and unpredictable than ever. However, it’s concerning that so many travellers still embark on international trips without adequate insurance coverage.

“Travellers should always be prepared, not just by checking the latest travel advisories and health recommendations, but by ensuring they have comprehensive travel insurance. At World Nomads, our policies cover a wide range of unforeseen medical expenses, including hospitalisation, emergency treatment, and even repatriation if necessary.

“We strongly advise travellers to secure insurance before their journey so they can focus on enjoying their holiday, knowing they are protected against the unexpected. An annual policy can be a good option to consider – ensuring protection across multiple trips in spite of ongoing health crises”.

World Nomads launched an annual multi-trip policy in June 2024. To find out more or purchase a policy, visit www.worldnomads.com/uk

*The study of 2,000 UK adults was carried out between 16 and 19 August by Opinium Research on behalf of travel insurance provider World Nomads to look at the immediate motivators and barriers to international travel and insurance considerations for 2024.
